hrmm, ok that confuses things. If William snr and Emily had already split, why wasnt he named on William jnrs birth cert, unless he wasnt the father of course, or Emily Winters isnt the right lady.
I didnt know you could order digital images, I'm not very good at this lark lol.
I took the plunge and ordered 'William Allen's jnr, aka 'William Jackson's, birth cert;
The date of birth is spot on for 'William Allen' jnr from my tree (going by the 1921 census and the 1939 Register). The Fathers name is blank, as suspected it would be. The address of 3 Little Edward Street...
Regarding this. Florence's Baptism record shows them being at 4 court, 3 House Little Barr Street in December 1911, just 6 months after the census. Did people really move around this much?
EDIT - I see a problem with this. I have William Snr born in 1877, confirmed by his death cert and 1921 census, but the William Allen who married Emily Winters is shown as being 18 in 1899, giving a birth year of about 1881?

Firstly - On the subject of Earnest, it seems he was up to something too, as he is shown in at least one Electoral Register in the 20s and 30s (1920 for example) as being at 40 Bromley Street but using his middle...
Sorry for the slow replies, I've been a bit busy today.
Just a quick reply for now, as I'm still not free to look at all this wonderous information that you have all provided. My head is spinning a bit, will reply in full later on.
Thats all news to me :) I dont think I am very good at this genealogy lark lol.
Where are they shown as Jackson and living as West on Great Barr St? Beginning to wonder if Allen is my real surname :)
Thank you Astoness and pjmburns for starting this thread.
My paternal great grandparents (and thus my paternal grandfather) lived at 40 Bromley St from sometime between the 1911 census and the 1921 census, up until the second world war.
My grandfather, Frederick, was the youngest as you can...
Thank you, Mike, took me a few mins to get my head around it. What was throwing me off was the curve of Chapel House Street, I got it into my head that the photo was taken from the west and not the north. :)
Whereabouts on Bradford St was Harrisons situated?
One of my great uncles, William Allen, was shown as working there in the 1921 census (as a Fitter's Labourer).
I've found the attached aerial photo from 1936 that claims to be Harrisons, but I can't work out its orientation in relation to a...
