I'm re-posting the picture taken of Upper 3a in 1957-8 year. If anyone recognizes themselves, please post. Apologies if I have mis-named anyone or forgotten their ??names.

The City of Birmingham - 46235

Having read other contributors' comments, I'm inclined to believe that the City of Birmingham locomotive should be kept "as-is" and in the safe keeping of the Birmingham Think Tank, for all to see (number stamps, dents, hammer-marks and all!). After all, we have, at the moment 2 other...

The City of Birmingham - 46235

City of Birmingham locomotive is, at the moment, in restored "cosmetic" condition, but the it cannot be returned to steam in it's present condition, without a full restoration, or rebuild.

    Yes, I understand.

I can see both sides to the preservation arguments. 1) The City of Birmingham locomotive, which is now at The Think Tank in Birmingham, represents one of 3 Coronation Class LMS locomotives in existence. Thanks to Billy Butlin (of Butlin's holiday camp fame), Duchess of Hamilton and Duchess of...

Yes, if I remember, he did have trembling/tremors. I believe it was as a result of his involvement in WW2, like so many others, of course. There were rumors at the time I was there, that he had to have surgery on his lower jaw.

If your photos are to big to upload, make a copy and reduce the size in a program like paint. Check the size of the "photo file" by right-clicking on the photo, and see what memory it uses. This should do the trick.

Yes...I remember that warning too. Another version, "You have been warned. Next time you will be warmed!" - Mr. Francis again!

One of the P.E teachers for a while was Mr. John Kennedy. He apparently played cricket for Warwickshire. One day, in the gym, we were doing leaps over the "horse". When it was my turn to be a supporter, I accidentally let go of the leaping kid's arm (can't remember who he was) and he fell...

Hello, I was in Mr.McShane's class during the '50s. I remember everyone you mention. Yes...on several occasions Mr McShane would ask me to get him his "Capstan Full Strength" cigarettes. On one occasion there was none of his favourite brand in stock and because I was "scared" to go back empty...

In 1956 Beeches Secondary held a collection (money) event to help raise funds for the Hungarian refugees, following the failed attempt by Hungary to exit the Communist bloc. The highest collection was made by my friend, Howard Fox, who raised about 1000 pounds. A lot of money for that time...

Hi, Maryd, I was at Beeches Secondary between 1954 and 1959. Mr. McShane was, I believe, the only MA in the school at that time. Do you recognize any of the children in the photos?

I wonder if you recognize yourself, or know anyone, on this picture. I've named some which I remember, but I apologize if I have mis-named anyone. People who attended Beeches Secondary in the 1950s and 1960s will remember Mr. McShane.

I attended Beeches Secondary School between 1954 and 1959. Mr. Peter John McShane, MA, was my form teacher for 2 years. He was very strict, but a good teacher. I met up with him again in 1966, near the Scott Arms, and related events since I left school. I am now 73 years old, retired and...

I'd left in December 1959, but Mr. Harold Edge was my headmaster then. Deputy heads at the time were Mr. Arthur Caldicott and Miss Lloyd.
