Having saved a couple of bookmarks I can’t find them! Where should I be looking?

    Austin Village, Turves Green

I would be surprised if this hasn’t been mentioned before but I’ve done a search and couldn’t find anything. However if I’ve repeated previous posts I apologise! I’ve just read a book (see below) which included detail of an area of Turves Green originally known as Longbridge Estate, later...

    Posting Photos

When I attach a photo to a post as a thumbnail I just see the photo whereas everyone else's pic has the file name, size and number of views underneath it. I've tried 'Attach Files' and 'Insert Image' but both give the same result. It probably doesn't matter but I would like to know why!!!

    Vehicle Tax

Received a letter from the DVLA this morning titled Last Chance Reminder, pointing out that my car tax was due on 1st August. I certainly hadn't had a reminder before today so have they stopped sending them? I paid online immediately and then received confirmation by email that they had received...

    False Teeth!

This has nothing to do with Birmingham apart my grand-dad having been a bank manager in the city prior to his retirement. When I received grand-dad's WW1 army record I was surprised to read that he had false teeth - he would have been just under thirty at the time. However on a guided tour of...

    Grandpa's Prize

This book was presented to my grandfather in 1886 when he would have been 6 years old. The only Smith Street school I can find was in Hockley although at the time I think he lived in Floodgate Street which seems a fair distance away!

    Triplex Safety Glass, Kings Norton

I worked at Triplex from 1967 to 1993. Here are photos of the site - the first from Google taken in 2011, the next two taken by me yesterday. Absolutely nothing left. Very sad.

    Sundays in the park

During a discussion yesterday my wife commented that every Sunday when she was little the swings were locked together and chains put round the slides so they couldn't be used (this was in Cheshire). This was also the case where my Gran lived in Radnorshire (as it was then). Can anyone remember...

    Seven Stars Inn, Solihull

Not strictly Birmingham but I hope someone will be able to help! A contributor on a Facebook forum has queried the origins of the name of Seven Star Road in Solihull. I recollect reading (or maybe dreaming!) that there was once an inn called The Seven Stars (or similar) on Warwick Road around...

    Handsworth Cemetery Flooded Again

Just came across this article. I hope something can be done to stop this happening again. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-54451672 P.S. I didn't intend this to be a political comment!

    Birmingham's Clean Air Zone Approved

See https://tinyurl.com/yybje8o4 Now I'm confused (again!) I thought the idea was to ban older polluting vehicles especially diesels. However the article states: Diesel cars older than a EURO 6 (manufactured before 2015) and petrol cars older than EURO 4 (made before 2006) are exempt from the...

    Birmingham TV

For several months I have been unable to view Birmingham TV on Ch 7. I seem to remember it started as BigCentreTV on Ch 8 but retuning the TV brings it up in the list on CH 7 although I get a No Signal notice. Can any of you still receive it? There were some quite interesting programmes...
