    Science Museum Newhall Street

Re: Sicience Museum Yes, a wonderful place - with more thinking than the Think Tank. For a time I worked for Plessey, who had taken over Ericson Telephones, the suppliers of the demonstration Strowger telephone exchange that was so popular. It had stood, irrepairable for some time; several of...

Sheldon Heath Comprehensive King Edward VI Sheldon Heath Acadamy

At last someone has remembered Sheldon Heath Comprehensive; I should have done so years ago! The school was a no-expense-shared flagship school, heralded in by the Labour Government as the way education in this country would be provided in the future. I believe it was a happy school, I know...

Yes Ray, There was a rumour that she was going to arrive on a motorbike but in the end it was the mayoral limo that delivered her. Things We Sent Off For

Around the late 50s and early 60s the back page of Exchange and Mart carried ads for horse racing tipsters. There was one, I think he called himself Captain Hill who, according to him, never lost. Week after week he claimed all four of his selections had won at fantastic odds - 33/1, 25/1, etc...

    My Favourite Musical

This is a lovely, cosy thread! We all seem to have the same favourites but there was a fantastically funny version of The Pirates of Penzanze by the Australian Opera (exact name forgotton) which I think deserves a mention. There are two versions with more or less the same cast and I stumbled...
