Years ago, my friend was diagnosed with melancholia. She worked in hospital records and the details of patients' diseases brought on the depression. She did give up the job she obviously wasn't able to cope with. Anthea.

Bren, thanks for sharing the info on the Boer War. My grandfather survived the second Boer War, so it is virtually impossible to find out anything about his time in the Army not knowing the regiment he served with. But knowing that he was involved sparked off my interest in the Boer War...

Ray, Thank you for posting the evacuation papers. My husband will have a look at them when he comes in from planting his beans this morning! He has often told me about his four years in Wales and the happy time spent there. He was one of the lucky ones. Anthea:)

I didn't enjoy my first day at school because I wasn't prepared for it. My mother worked full-time and couldn't take me, so a friend who was three years older than myself took me instead. I cried until I fell asleep on the desk. The teacher was Mrs Udall who turned out to be very nice and...

Hello Maggs, It must have been a sign of the times, but I actually felt embarrassed asking for a deodorant in the Chemists shop; can't remember why????? Anthea.

Does anyone remember this deodorant ODORONO? Not sure if this is the correct spelling, but there is a message in the name. It was available in the 1950's and may have been one of the first stick deodorants on the market. Anthea.
