Brought back memories for me I must say, Lyn. I remember the smell of the metal presses and stamps from the factories in Brearley Street when I attended the infant school. I also remember my mom wrapping a scarf around my head when the smog came down!

I've just discovered this photo of St. Chad's in Brearley Street, it really has made my day (up until now I thought there was only one)! This is an enlargement of the school, itself.

Funny you should say that, Lyn. This is nearby Miller Street after a bombing raid, so sadly I think you are probably correct. I don't think people realise the amount of people that died in the Birmingham bombing raids during WW2.

I didn't know that Newtown Row and The High Street was once called Walmer Lane! I wonder who 'Walmer' was? I did discover a very old photograph in the forum showing a bandstand in Walmer's Recreation Park.

Hi Lyn, the photos were taken in Birmingham but sadly not in Finchley Park, I just stumbled across them. I'm led to believe they were taken in Birmingham in the 1960s. Finchley Park did have all these things, though! My first park playground was Blews Street / Walmer's Recreation Ground and here...

This really does bring back memories from my childhood in the 1960s...The Orient in High St, Aston. The Malt Shovel can be clearly seen beside it.
