This is a long shot but has anyone got any photographs of Andromeda science fiction bookshop? I think it was in Summerhill near the College of Food & Domestic Arts.

Atkinson's Bar had Ruddles on draught and you could get a very nice game pie. The bar was like an Edwardian library and they also sold very nice game pie. I remember the guy with the beard and the spanish lady from the main lounge was called Aurora. I was a regular rom 1981 to 1985.

Pope's corner (New Street, Lower Temple Street?). Any photographs? I vaguely remember a large neon pen sign.

Many years ago (when the place was a proper pub!) I remember seeing high up on the wall in one of the bars a brass plate commerating the exact spot where the tallest man in Birmingham had reached. The event took place in the 19th century. Anyone know what happened to the plate?

I visited The Old Contemptibles last night, purely in the interests of research. The pub is fantastic! It has really been refurbished well, not like the pale plastic efforts that have sprung up everywhere. Well done M & B!

The Old Contemptibles Please forgive the spelling mistake in my original post, I think I was overcome with excitement! I just hope the refurbishment retains some of the original atmosphere and not replace it with a 'modern' refurbishment.

Thanks Oisin I think the shop stood out because of its sign. It was unique when compared to all the uniform neon signs in the city now. The builders who were refitting the shop say the sign wasn't destroyed but is located in the basement sales area. I can't verify this but maybe someone has...

Last year 'The Anatomical Boot' shop on Colmore Row closed down. I must have passed it on countless occasions. I've tried to find photographs of it on the net but the ones I've seen are not the best. has anyone got any photographs, as I miss that familiar green sign on my travels!
