    Birmingham Cinemas

I remember going to the "Cartoon Picture house" in Station St in the '60s. What I found amazing was that they showed films from the 1930s and 1940s such as 'The Three Stooges', 'Flash Gordon', and 'Batman'. I have to admit that I thought they were great.

    College Arms College Road Kingstanding

Before the flats were built behind The College Arms (on Warren Farm Road) there was just a field. That is where dogs were raced on a sunday morning. As far as I'm aware the Macs weren't involved.

    College Arms College Road Kingstanding

I was a local in the 70s and 80s when it was a nice place to drink. I laugh at the thought now of Mrs Mac shouting "time gents please.... have you got no homes to go to!"

    Parisian Club Cannon Street

Here is a photograph of Cannon St from 1976. The Windsor is just about seen on the right, The Parisian is just outside of view around where the street turns left. It's interesing to compare the 'then' and 'now' photographs.

    Parisian Club Cannon Street

The Fillibuster was the pub that was on the corner opposite the Snow Hill car park (The Royal Angus Hotel was just around the corner from it). It changed its name to The West End Bar and was closed down by the police in December 2000. On the same side, if you walked up towards Lloyd House, there...

    The Bull's Head, Birchfield Road

I passed The Bull's Head every day on my work in Birmingham and I always said I'd go in for a pint, it was a traditional Victorian corner terrace pub. The pub has been closed for over twelve months because I assumed, for refurbishment. The Birmingham Mail has recently reported that it will...

This is a long shot but does anyone have any photographs of the Newman Tonks works around Bridge Street and Hospital Street from the 70's or 80's? I drove by and stopped there the other day and it brought back some happy memories of the time I worked there in the Repair Shop with Bill Jinks...

    The Longboat, Cambrian Wharf

Hi Wales The Bier Keller was on the right hand side of Needless Alley as you walked down to New Street. There was also a Bier Keller under Bogarts in New Street. A couple of pubs I forgot to mention were The Gilded Cage and The Iron Horse opposite (Stephenson Place?). I can't say I was...

    The Longboat, Cambrian Wharf

Just read that they are planning to demolish The Longboat in Cambrian Wharf. I must admt that when I visited it last year it felt a little bit run down, but I always remember the summers I spent there, especially the long hot summer of 1976. Lump in the throat time! List of pubs that have gone...
