I've no doubt, if we removed the carpet, our stairs would look just like that. Not with a hip, but just like that. We covered ours because of kids, and now grandbloodykids. Can we ever do what we want?
:)
In the 70s it was a council run nursery(sorry if this has been covered already), as a council sparky/boilerman, we used to service the boilers there, and met a girlfriend there aswell.......happy days:D
When I started work for the council, as an apprentice electrician, in 1967, there was a lamplighter at Sheepcote St depot. Until I moved to Shropshire, in the early 80s, I still had a mantel that he gave me.
Yet, we seem to see more spiders in the house, once the weather changes. I always used to just pick them up, and throw them out side. Until once when I did it, it turned around and ran straight past me, much to the horror of the family. A friend of mine used to do the same thing, until he got...
Good job I thought, I'd browse the site to see if this subject had been posted before.....and it has.
I moved from Brum in 1984 ish, for the "good life" in North Shropshire. I didn't want to go, but the gaffer saw the bigger picture, and she was almost right.
We've had the kids, and chickens...
Well, what memories. I worked in that fire station around about 1972. It was one of the first jobs I did as a newly qualified electrician for Brum council. Two of us were sent there to improve/amend the wiring in the loft area. I hadn't got used to working in lofts(its was a balancing act after...
I sort of understand what the OP is refering to, as I too used to be notified more regularly. Then I thought, maybe Its because I dont, or didnt post much. Recently, I've been more active, and get regular emails.:)
The thing is, I've been here nearly 40yrs, and I'm still classed as "that Brummie", which is fine, and I'm proud to be one, but its not seen like that, locally. A Brummie is a Dummy. Still dont care, as, like you said, its a nice place:)
Sorry I dont have photos, only memories.
As an apprentice electrician for Birmingham Council, I worked in the Town Hall for a brief period. That opened the door to operating the spotlights for many many acts, between 1969 and about 1974 I think, the list is way too long and would probably bore...

Me too Mick, the worst time of my life in the late 50s, early 60s. I found out what gratuitous violence was, in the name of religion. We lived next door as my dad was the caretaker. He was also treated like muck. Sister Vincent was the worst, pulled me around by the hair near my ear, and hit...
Hi Ditto, I was there a couple of years earlier than your dates, my dad was the caretaker, and we lived at 22 Hyde Rd, next door to the school. Sister Vincent and the rest of the nuns were cruel. Put me off that religion forever, sorry.
