Great to see photos of Guilford St between Gower St & Gerrard St. We used to hang around there outside Stanley Huddleston's house with our mates 1960-61, no doubt annoying the local residents. Together with Stanley, Teresa Green, Thelma Jones & Danny Haywood (who lived in Gower St) come to mind.

Although I don't remember ever seeing this myself, I think this advert was from the 1950s.

The photo in the middle of post 184 is the junction of Great Hampton Row and Great Hampton St. The factory on the right was W. Canning in 1962 when I used to get off at that bus stop to go to work. The buildings on the left are still there.

Still have our card from 1967. Funny now, to think of the milkman coming to your door every day and you knowing his name. Together with Butchers and Bakers and all those friendly independent shops becoming extinct, we've lost a lot of those personal services.

My wife's family (Rogers) lived at 13 Andover Place from 1939 'til 1952. She was born there in 1947.

The chap on the stepladders repairing the lamp made me smile.

While playing around with Photoshop last year, I got four different photos from four different periods and stitched them together. A few perspective problems but, it's a view many people will recognise. The other one is how it was in 2016.

That first photo ( 118742 ) is of the corner of Charlotte St & St Pauls Square. In 1961, I had a mate who's Dad was some sort of caretaker in that building.

Great photos! The photo of Hockley ( 117560 ) shows a lorry in the foreground loaded with acid carboys. My first job in 1961 was in a plating factory in Hampton St, where I would have to unload those straight from the lorry down a plank to the pavement. Makes me shudder now to think how unsafe...
