    Wheeler Street Lozells

Seeing this photo that Astoness posted in #206 reminds me of the chap who ran it around 1961-62. He had a little waxed moustache and always wore a checked coat and a pork-pie hat. His own car was a Morris Minor with lots of various car badges spread across the grill. Me and my friends were...

    Gower Street

Saw this photo on the Guilford St thread and realised that it is the only photograph I've ever seen that shows any part of the 'new' school. The ground floor of the furthest section shown was the library in 1961, next to our classroom ( Mr Ward 4B ).

    Guildford Street Lozells

Hi Gina, I will look out for your book. I was with Doctors Firth & Carolyn ( Carolan? ) but they were situated at the bottom of Wheeler St.

    Guildford Street Lozells

This photo is one of those "Oh Wow" photos for me. That's where me and my friends used to hang out in 1960-61. I haven't seen that place for 58 years. I believe the house on the corner of Gerrard St with the hedged wall was a Doctors Surgery.

    Then & Now

High St, Aston 1949, looking towards Park Lane with the Malt Shovel pub on the left. Again, a snapshot of the You Tube video and a Google image of 'now'. There are lots of photos showing various parts of High St but, I've never seen one showing both sides of the street as this image does. It...

There are lots of old photos showing various parts of High St but, I've never seen one showing both sides of the road like this image...

    Prisoners of War WW2 photos

Thanks to everyone for your likes & comments. Here are some more images of Pop's legacy. He is the first one in the missing list and he is standing second from left in the photo.

    Prisoners of War WW2 photos

He did return safely and raised four more children, one of whom was my wife born in 1947. 'Pop' as we called him died in 1985.

    Prisoners of War WW2 photos

The soldier seated on the far left of the 2nd photo 130842 is actually my Father-in-Law Private Albert Rogers who was a despatch rider and was captured at Dunkirk. I have the actual photo with a few more postcards he sent back home. Here are two of them. First showing him in 1938 on his BSA J34...

    Then & Now

A snapshot of High St, Aston in 1949 taken from a you tube video looking down towards Burlington Hall on the left, and the Barton Arms pub further down. The dome on the right was the Globe cinema and just above on the horizon is probably the fire station tower in Lancaster Place. The 'now' photo...

    BSA Factory 1940s Onwards

Luckily, I was never initiated. I first worked there on the Beagle Cylinder heads ( strangely, I've never seen a beagle on the road) before moving to D Section working on the A50 /A65 crankcases. I too used to wander around the factory in my dinner time and sometimes also scavenged the scrap...

Location wanted for this bus if possible

I agree brummy-lad, we have the church photo, The Sun pub photo but, as others have said, we need that opposite north corner photo.

Location wanted for this bus if possible

Hi Phil, my recollection of the No8 turning into Pershore Rd (Sherlock St) from Belgrave Rd would have been around 1957-8 so, a bit later than when you rode it. Perhaps the Belgrave development in Spring St had already started then so could explain the diversion. Could the bus shelter in the...

Location wanted for this bus if possible

Whether the Inner Circle used St Lukes Rd I cannot remember but, I do remember that in the clockwise direction, the No8 came down Belgrave Rd and turned right at Pershore Rd (leading on to Sherlock St). The bus then stopped at the next bus stop for a while so, there must have been a bundy clock...

Location wanted for this bus if possible

In regards to the road layout of this photo, the positioning of the bollards shows that looking from St Lukes Rd, Sun St would indeed curve to the left. If it were a right angled cross roads the bollards would appear almost as one. I would also suggest that this photo is much earlier than the...

Location wanted for this bus if possible

Spot on oldMohawk (post #196). I too saw the similarities you pointed out. In my opinion the problem has been solved. P.S. I enjoyed that saga and all the input, any more photos to investigate?

    Steelhouse lane

In 1960, I worked part time from school at Lincoln Jeffries gun shop which had the zebra crossing right outside the door. There were a couple of gun shops further up and I remember W. Pond hardware shop. I seem to remember an Indian restaurant which had a smell we were not accustomed to in those...

Location wanted for this bus if possible

I also remember the buses stopping here in Icknield St for tea from the café but the clock is missing on this photo. Don't know why two photos have come up. I can't delete one?

Location wanted for this bus if possible

Just a thought, could the architecture in front of the bus be a separate building to the tower?

    Cowper Street

Gordon Rogers mentioned could have been my wife's uncle who lived with his Mother and siblings in Andover Place, Cowper St. At that time my wife lived with her parents Albert & Elsie Rogers at 13/66 Andover Place, Cowper St until they moved to Whitehead St in1952.
