Further to post #19, William Smith was a widow when he married Esther Oliver. His father was listed as Thomas and his mother appears to have been called Hannah.

Having said that it's probably Walter's brother, Charles, who was listed as a manufacturing jeweller in 1901. There father, Thomas, was also a jeweller.

Possibly Walter Francis Smith, son of Thomas Smith and Ann Pepper, and Ann's eldest brother, Josiah Francis Pepper. Walter is listed as a jeweller in 1901 and 1911 and Josiah is listed as a manufacturing jeweller in 1891 and 1901.

Assuming that average of the children who didn't reach the age of 5 was 2.5 then the life expectancy of everyone else was a touch over 60.

You would think that the place he studied in Baltimore would have records. What they would contain and when (if ever) they might be released to the public I don't know.

Here it is... There is also a Jogendra Chandra Bose b1895 who was a student in Waco, Texas in 1918 and travels to UK in 1926.Don't know what happens to him after that.

He is also listed in Baltimore on the 1920 census.

There appears to be a US WWI draft record for him, dob matches the one given at his death. Birthplace is listed as Maruchgongus. He is listed as student in Baltimore and as a Hindu.
