    I enjoyed the programme and it bought back so many memories especially the handmade and painted wooden toys that we had - I kept a handmade wooden Micky Mouse for many years.the only thing I couldn’t recall were the instant gravy granules - I’m sure they appeared well after the war.

    Sparkhill baths was also used for fatalities of air raids. I remember going there with my Nan when she had to identify a young couple and their two small children who were killed in an air raid just a little further up Stratford Road on the corner of Evelyn Road. They were relations - so sad.

    I remember the street party in Formans Rd next to the Mirror Laundry and Mr Barratt wheeling his piano into the street and my cousin June standing in her bedroom window wearing a red white and blue paper dress - she had mumps!

    What Are Faggots?

    We used to get our faggots and peas and gravy from Harleys Pork Butchers in Formans Road Sparhill. Bill Harley used to make them every Tuesday and Friday and you took your own jug or large bowl.they were lovely. I still cook tripe and onions and also stuffed hearts when I can get them.

    The Shaftsmoor Pub had a G.O. Which my Dad used and later when my Mom joined him they drank in the large Assembly Room and sat at the same table every Sunday night with a group of friends.
