Cox, Francis Blakemore and William Cox

After conducting an extensive investigation, I have concluded that the William Cox born in Bham, whom we have been examining, couldn't have been the William Cox I am looking for. I have looked at all the records for the UK and have 168 potential candidates, and I will continue to look. If anyone...

I have the marriage records of William in 1891 in New York. On that record it states that his father was John and his mother was Elisabeth Parker. Now, to be fair, there are many inaccuracies on that record. So, I have taken that information with a grain of salt.

Yes, I registered and got a number of more details on three William Coxes. I don't think they are the ones. I am trying some more creative ideas, like the military training aspect. There are about 39 births that could be the individual that I am looking for. At this point I don't have much...

I have gone back to the information from records in the US and concluded that William Cox was born between Sept 5, 1847 and Nov. 30, 1848. I have been trying to find out if he was trained at the Royal Military Academy Woolwich, which taught engineering at that time. Does anyone on this list...

I stand corrected on the date of William Cox's travel from Le Havre to New York. He arrived in NY on March 10, 1890.

I am concentrating on the William Cox born in the 2nd qtr of 1847 with mmn Lines. Can you walk me through the process of getting the birth certificate or any other information I might need about this birth and how I can pay for it?

I believe (I have the passenger list) that he landed in NY on Nov. 3, meaning he had to leave in Oct. I believe he traveled from Le Havre because he was living in France then.

William sailed from Le Havre, France in Oct. 1890 to New York City on the ship named Le Champagne (sp?)

When did the William born to John and Eliza occur? You are correct. We have no way to tie him to Birmingham other than his complete knowledge of the slide rule trade. There was a William Cox in Devon, but I have ruled him out as a possible parent. There may be others in the UK but it is getting...

There couldn't be many William Cox's who were born in Birmingham between 1847 and 1848 and the parents were John and Elisabeth.

Okay, I see that. Thank you for pointing that out. So, the conclusion is that William in the parish record does not have John and Elisabeth as parents. Might there be other records from Birmingham outside the Parish church?

You are showing me baptisms for 1861. The William Cox am looking for was born about 1847-8. Perhaps that is why you are not finding parents of John and Elisabeth.

What births for William Cox do you see for that time period? Who were the parents?

I may be wrong on the mother's maiden name. Can you give me the details of the four your found.

Thank you for the quick reply with so much information. I think it is reasonable to suggest that the F B Cox born in 1824 is the individual that may have had an association with William Cox. I also think the question, now, is whether there is a record of a William Cox born around 1847 +/- 1 year...

I am researching William Cox (b. 1847-8 -- d. 1907, New York) and his relationship (if any) with Francis Blakemore Cox, or possibly some other scientific instrument maker in the Birmingham area from that period. William Cox emigrated to the US in 1890. My records from the US show that William's...
