    Birmingham on Sea

It seems there may have been a fair few who fought in WW1 and then went on to be in the Home Guard in WW2 Chris. My grandfather was another, like your father and Bert. Thank you for sharing those photographs.

Scams: telephone, email, texts 2023, 2024

Just had a text message: "Your car has received a parking ticket . To avoid additional fines and potential legal action, please pay the penalty immediately" that is followed by a https:/qrco.de/bf...?..HSQ that for some reason (possibly because I'm very confident, that I haven't parked anywhere...

Location help: possibly Bordesley ? Tranter's coalyard ?

It seems very familiar to somewhere that I remember passing quite regularly, perhaps near the railway arches by New Canal Street in the early 60s or it may resemble something similar also associated with/near to the railway around Small Heath. I can't recall exactly where I'm thinking of, but...

Location help: possibly Bordesley ? Tranter's coalyard ?

Do you know who the children are and if they have connections to you, could you give a very rough idea of whereabouts in Birmingham that they may have lived? Few of us would have got away with the lad's haircut by the way, it's some way off the usual short back and sides, isn't it? ;)

Jaffrays/ Highcroft hospital/ lunatic asylum, Erdington

Yes, having been opened as a General hospital in 1885, it later took chronic cases that were transferred from Birmingham general Hospital and also treated wounded soldiers during WW1, alongside children. From the 1950s and 60s it began housing geriatric patients, it closed around 1991 and was...

    Does nobody die anymore?

At Villa Park the term "HEITS" (Holte Enders in the sky) is used and in Monty Python's "Dead Parrot" sketch they used the following: I think that it is a matter of choice really, I guess they all tell us the same thing, albeit with a slightly different tone.

    sutton coldfields christmas market

I guess as it is not open on Monday's, they would not stay open for just one extra day (albeit Christmas Eve). They will probably be clearing their stalls away on the Sunday or Monday and understandably wouldn't want to be doing that on Christmas Day or Boxing Day. That said, I note that the...

    Birchfield Road Perry Barr

Councillor Sharon Thompson has said, “As someone who visits Perry Barr regularly, I know the area has been transformed in recent years and is now a destination of choice for visitors or for those wishing to relocate." If that is the case Sharon, then why not sell those flats to those people...

    Edmund street c 1900

I spent a few years working on those Rates books 60 odd years later. I remember all the old books were kept in storage in the basement, including that one I expect, although I only recall having a proper look at some from the 30s & 40s.

    The Midland Hotel (Burlington Hotel)

We spent our wedding night there Richard, just over a hundred years after it first opened. You could tell that it must have been the place to be back in the Victorian era, as it still was then in our opinion. A friend of mine worked there as a sous chef at the time and he kindly left a bottle of...

    Birchfield Road Perry Barr

It will be interesting to hear just who the "private bidder" is and how this cut-price sale came about. If the council expects their tax payers to make up the balance, then they have a right to know all about this fiasco and whether this was really the best available deal.
