lad in the lane fire last night

We drove past it a few weeks ago and as has been said, it was an accident waiting to happen. Piles of rubbish left around the pub and the building, like too many others was left as a clear target for people who have nothing better to do with their time than to commit arson, in the safe knowledge...

    Parisian Club Cannon Street

Oh I don't know, I could probably still prop up the bar for a while, which is about all that I usually did ;), rather than:

    Remembrance Day 2024

I have just come across the following, when looking at some photographs of GEC at Witton. I thought it appropriate to remember brave "Titch" here, who I'm pleased to report had a headstone erected over his unmarked grave in 2000, has a memorial plaque at Junction Six Industrial Park, Wyrley...

    GEC WITTON WORKS

Just found from the 1921 Census that my great grandfather Thomas Griffiths worked as an electrical fitter at GEC Switch Gear Witton in 1921. That makes me one of three generations of my family that have worked in Witton at some point. Small wonder that I'm a Villa fan. ;) Here is a GEC advert...

    Primary School Cricket

I played for Slade Road Juniors a little later 1966 and 1967, I think. We played in a schools knock-out competition at Pype Hayes Park and reached the final only to be beaten by the school from across the road (Yenton). I remember that I fielded at silly mid on (my own choice ), as I always...

    Crossroads programme

1 - Bert Bradshaw (David Jason) bottom right in 1964, 2 - Larry Grayson with Meg & Amy in 1972 and 3 - Bob Monkhouse with Carlos in 1966:

    Crossroads programme

They bought it in 1947 and converted it into a hotel in 1950. Most recently it was run by Ramada Hotels. I went to a couple in the 80s. Nice and handy for those living in and around Erdington, I rather liked it there.

It's still there, but it is not currently open as a hotel.

    Crossroads programme

Penns Hall Hotel (formerly home to Crossroads) has been used to house Asylum seekers for the past three years. I wonder what Meg would have to say and if any of the current residents have been made aware of Crossroads? There would certainly be some new, rather different story lines available for...

    Birmingham Town Hall

If you do a search see top right (magnifying glass), there are several previous threads where Town Hall Concerts were discussed Peter. These include "Birmingham Town Hall"(more than one), Groups we have seen live" and "Concerts at Birmingham Town Hall", I'm sure that is among the many Town Hall...

Birmingham Nightclubs of the Past - Memories

Wasn't it on Exeter Street (the first turn on the left, when going up Holloway Head from Holloway Circus)? Last time I was up that way around 10 years ago, the building was still there, but I couldn't see any sign of the place itself. I guess there isn't the demand now, as everywhere is open...

    OLD BIRMINGHAM PHOTOS FROM STEVEBHx

Here are a couple of Belmont Row: 1- Belmont Row/Prospect Row, 2 - St Peter's Church. There is also another thread titled, "Lock Keepers Cottage Belmont Row" that contains some other pictures, but I haven't been able to spot any other photos taken of the houses that were once there.

Birmingham Nightclubs of the Past - Memories

Yes, I've picked up my son and his friends from gigs too and I wasn't the only one waiting, we each gave each other a knowing smile, as we waited in the twilight hours for our kids to come out from Muse and My Chemical Romance concerts, for example. ;)

    The 1980’s House

I think it's what you become used to. I doubt my Nan or parents would have ever gone for a quilt. I used to like blankets too, but my wife has had us use a duvet since the 80s and I'm a convert.

    Remembrance Day 2024

I watched the BBC Midlands News last week (link below) and they are also doing some splendid knitting in Wellesbourne to mark Remembrance Day. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cwyvjx15322o
