We know it isn't you sadly, Justmatt. That is very disappointing for you.. Maybe they will one day. They might think they are protecting their mum or they don't want their boat rocked. I find too many like you in similar situations and several within my birth family. One, only one so far told me...

I don't know your circumstances obviously but....I have a friend who found out that she had a brother before her mum married her dad. She has been trying to find him - we have been trying to find him.

Maybe you could try again. With an intermediary. I heard of many in the same boat as you. One of my Norcap contacts who helped me was contacted by her birth mother who wanted to wait till or if her husband passed away. Which he did but she still did not tell her other children. She blamed it on...

    Garages And Service Stations

My dad fell in a pit. He was accident prone. We have a pit in our garage here at home, it has been covered over with hardboard , the girls' grandad put sand in when they were little , in case, as it had oil and rainwater in but you can't stand on it. I am assuming the then owners did up cars...

This reminds me of 3 little garages near me in Coventry. One became a carpet warehouse, another the office part is a thriving café, the third is now flats. One used to have 2 pumps the other 2 just one. I can't remember the petrol but it was obscure. I think one had a purple logo.

I googled Loveday Hospital, it appears on a different Birmingham History site, it says it was for difficult births. Lahai Ro was not a hospital as far as I am aware, no babies were delivered there.

If you Google Norcap Contact Register, their records have been taken over by Family Action's PAC UK. They will know someone who can assist you.

Yes indeed. Our barmy neighbour (see my gardening posts) had the remaining one when he moved here. Our houses used to be one we were told there were 4 gas lamps and our 2 are in the cellar but we are unsure or intrepid to discover where the entrance might be. He had one still when he moved in...

The man who turned our gas lamps out and re lit them had Downs Syndrome, he wore a bowler hat. I wasn't quite 4. My memory goes back a long way, not like now. Mum used to say here comes the little lamp lighter, I am recalling the hymn now, 'when lamps were lighted in the town and boats put out...

They don't seem to have many originals left and with each expensive city revamp, they move them. Off I go again, I remember a district in Dublin, I think unoficially called the Five Lamps , I wanted to go and my mate said no it's too rough especially with my accent, but I had learned to keep...

Just an observation. They have some reproduction gas lamps in Coventry which bend in half to be cleaned or bulbs replaced. I remember them as a small child and a man climbed the ladder to get at them.

I was able to obtain Birth Certificates from Gro Gov they gave me an account number as I ordered many. It was to establish I was who I was and my immediate birth families were large. As it was I did not use any professional bodies, I was helped by adoptees who belonged to Norcap which is no...
