    Vegetarian Store and Restaurant (WW2)

Thanks for the welcome, Lyn! I was reminded of your forum by Anne Bennett. She used your forum when researching her book "Far From Home" and spoke warmly in the Acknowledgements of all of the help she was given. Would you be able to direct me to the area where I might view any photographs or...

    Vegetarian Store and Restaurant (WW2)

Thanks for directing me here, A Sparks. I googled Old Square after reading through the Prana thread and had a chuckle at this: During World War II, a hole was dug next to Lewis's Department Store and above it, a bomb shelter was built. The shelter did not suffer any damage however nearby areas...

    Vegetarian Store and Restaurant (WW2)

My mom was a Brummie and told me a story about working in a vegetarian store with a restaurant during WW2. I'm curious whether it is possible to identify it given that I don't know the name. I do know from the 1939 Register that she lived at 15 Gainsborough Road, so presumably it might have been...

    James Mottram 1861 Census Lookup

Thank you. I was just going to check on the census date. And yes, as I began to think about it I was thinking the same thing - they were still trying out names that early.

    James Mottram 1861 Census Lookup

Where did you find this? I only have familysearch access (and I'm not LDS member so I don't have the Ancestry and FMP). I used to go to my local library and use Ancestry, but of course that is shut down at the moment (in Vancouver, BC, Canada). Can you please attach original?

I've not had good luck finding any Mottram baptisms. I must not be looking properly.

Thanks for attaching the original as I don't have it.

    James Mottram 1861 Census Lookup

Thank you. I had found this too but there are 2 problems with it - Thomas not James, as you mentioned, but also Ellinor rather than Melinda. So, I assumed this was another member of the family who may have gone there at the same time. Do you really think this is it? Are Ellinor and Melinda...

    James Mottram 1861 Census Lookup

I'd love it if anyone could help me find the 1861 census for James Mottram, born abt. 1834 and/or his wife Emma Mottram, born 1837. They were married in Birmingham in 1854 and were both born in Birmingham. From other census, I know that all of their children were also born in Birmingham except...
