    IN OUR GARDEN 2024

Bought some lovely red flowering lobelia plants yesterday. It wasn't until we got them home and read up on them that we realised just how toxic and poisonous they are, so I'm afraid they won't be pride of place in the border!!

Did You Have a Paper Round ?

My first newspaper round route was at Fosters newsagents on the Coventry Road opposite the Coronet cinema and included two working men’s clubs. The morning round started every day at 7.00am, including Sundays, when the bag was so heavy that I had to go back to the shop three times for refills...

    Wrestling at the Embassy Sportsdrome

I was there too!! Alf Kent, the ex wrestler and referee, who I think lived in Muntz Street, got front row tickets for my brother & me. He took us into the bar afterwards to meet Billy Two Rivers, who sadly died recently.

    What’s this?

PhotoRazor is a good method to reduce photo sizes. It's free & it's easy to use. I don't know if there is an ipad version though https://photorazor.en.softonic.com/ This app is one of many designed for iPads https://apps.apple.com/us/app/image-size/id670766542

This Birmingham play about the Middlemore homes is available, via Balsall Heath History Society, on YouTube. It's quite a long play but well worth the watch!!

    Small Heath Park (Victoria Park)

I recall that in the 1960's Small Heath Park had a play centre near to the lake. In it they had table tennis and other games. Alf Kent was a ITV presenter for wrestling. He lived in Muntz Street and taught basic wrestling skills to the younger boys at the centre. They had football training and...
