    High Street Deritend

I cannot enlarge it any more as it would pixelate and make it even harder to read. You can see why I thought it was a 25 or 26 but I can now see your 29 and the bottom line of Kingstanding. Quite a long route and a surprise to a non-bus person like myself as I imagined most routes to start and...

    High Street Deritend

This is where threads go adrift, or get confusing ... Lyn posted her Old Guy pic question on this thread but the pub was in Digbeth. I replied saying that the closest pic I have is No.62 because I was trying to answer her question/query. However, I was referring to No.62 Digbeth which was a very...

Architectural Guide to Birmingham and the Black Country

Cheers Viv, though I must mention I didn't provide information on every pub in the book, only the houses which Andy was stuck on and asked for some help.

Architectural Guide to Birmingham and the Black Country

At long last, the follow-up to the 2005 tome is due out on March 22nd. Poor Andy, he has had to keep updating the text as bulldozers removed buildings he had discussed. On several occasions I had to e-mail him to let him know that a building had vanished. Er, you may find me in the credits as I...

    HS2 progress 2020 and beyond

Without going into the environmental or political arguments, can I just stick my head above the parapet to discuss some practical issues. Back in the day we used to be able to travel from the Black Country straight into New Street. This was changed years ago and now we have to use Snow Hill or...

    The Old Crown Inn Deritend

I realise there are zillions of photographs of this building but, hopefully, this is one that may not have been seen before. The image is taken from a magic lantern slide dated 1907. The slide was filthy and cracked so it took me about three hours to make it presentable ...

    Surname Search

I am trying to compile a list of people included on my site to make it easier for browsers to find ancestors. I only include a name in this directory if I have typed something about the individual or have included a newspaper article. There are, of course, thousands of more names buried in the...

    18th Century Publicans

I was looking through a copy of Sketchley's trade directory published in 1767 [the earliest record of trades etc. in a directory] for Deritend. And then I thought I could type up a list that would be useful for others. I don't think this is available elsewhere as a listing. I have only got up to...

    Location, Location, Location

I have a pic in one of my boxes but I can confirm that it only had timbers around windows and the three prominent dormer/gables. The ground floor was stone, brick and glass so that is not the one.
