Have you tried contacting Balsall Heath Local History Society? (Easy to Google). Val Hart is a useful contact for all things Balsall Heath. They are based in the old Print Works on Moseley Rd.
I'm interested in this Xmas story. I went to St Clements between 1965 and 1972 so straddled both the old and new sites. We lived on Cheatham St.
I seem to remember that the 'Lucas' factory across the rd held an annual Xmas party for the school in their big canteen which included a small present...
