Meanwhile in Canada, I'm the first in my direct line since they left Scotland in the 1850's to leave from the community they docked at. Probably why I'm having trouble tracing with the names and moving about. Please not understanding the city at all.

You are like a research ninja. I can't get over how helpful you have been. Meanwhile I'm over here still trying to wrap my head around place names.

That makes sense. If only everyone didn't have the same name lol it doesn't look like many of the kids that stayed in England had many children of their own, although I guess we are getting to where that wouldn't be documented in openly due to possibility of being still alive

it looks like the initial on the Mary Dix in the 1950's voter list was a Mary H... maybe not the same one?

That would make more sense, especially if Edward Dix (born in 1913) is her son...otherwise she would have been 45 which while not unheard of would be unlikely, putting the birth of Mabel at around 18, probably not unusual.

Was Mabel still using the last name of Robins?

We didn't even have a last name confirmed (Dix) of Mary until both my mom and I did Ancestry DNA testing and noticed that was on only common denominator with a few matches, it was just possibly- so I've unlocked a lot of mysteries recently. But the more I unlock the more I have. I wonder if...

It seems like the father Charles disappeared shortly after the November 1907 arrest. I'm not sure if he was imprisoned/deported/killed/died/ changed his name and left. Mary Ann also seems like a mystery other than there was mention in my G-grandmothers exit form from Middlemore care around...

Yes. that is her! It was another Middlemore "shipment" of children.

She and Charles departed on May 11, 1907. Mary Ann was sent to Middlemore in November of 1907 and was sent in 1909 (i think)

Nanny B went by Nellie and Helen as well as Ellen in Canada too. I honestly don't know what her real name was.

Since I'm still learning all this British industrial age lingo, would the fact that the older children (Florence and Mable) were in an industrial school indicate that the had likely been previously removed from the home, and that is why they were likely not taken in the February 1907 raid? Is...

Your names do match the ones I have (Charles and Mary Anne Dix as well as Ellen Kate (my g-gm, Charles Edward and Mary Ann May)!!!!! Can you message me with where you located this info as it's AMAZING and much appreciated.

I honestly don't know if it would be the same family. I only know what the Middlemore Records can tell me, my G-gmother didn't talk at all about any family in England so we only know if the 4 children who were removed from the home in 2 separate incidences in 1907. I guess I could move this...

Not a weird question at all- yes it was Charles. This article calls him George, but the Middlemoore records for the admittance of all the children is listed as Charles. My G-Grandmother also said her parents were Mary Anne and Charles. So many George was a middle name/alias/typo.

Ok- thank you, that helps me get my head around it. I'm assuming this would have been a lower/working class type of neighborhood (assuming so due to my gg-grandparents profession. He also did 4 in prison later that year for assaulting a police officer)? And many of those living in the area would...

Thank you! This is helpful - it appears as there is a car park there today. Forgive me if this is a silly question (again Canadian lol), but would the entrances to the homes all be directed to the court yard with a main entrance of the court yard facing the street? TV leads me to believe this...

Hello all, I'm based in Western Canada, so I need to preface my request with the fact that I have zero knowledge of Birmingham (well I watched a couple of episodes of Peaky Blinders but that's it). I've recently been able to track down my British Home child great-grandmother to her sending...
