I received Charles Jr's middlemoore file today -It appears by 1914 he was returned to Bham. He was likely suffering from what we know know as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, as Ellen was a carrier of this gene which impacted many of her son's - it's passed from mother's to son's, females carry/pass...

Thank you - so I was likely correct in translating the letter to read "I am here as I have been bad" Although not sure if bad = in a bad way or sentenced to the workhouse. It looks like they do have some records for the workhouse but I'm likely just a few years too soon too (and too far away)...

I think this address says "The Union Swindon Road" Cheltenham? Does that make sense?

It's interesting that he had contact with Florence, since we also lost track of her. I wonder what transpired after she left industrial school and if he kept track of the other children. I would suspect the children after John were not his. So many questions that I'll never have the answers...

I know, now I'm anxiously awaiting the 1921 census. Although it seems I'll have to sign up to something to view it lol

Latest update!!! I have gotten Mary Ann (daughter's) file from Middlemore! there is a ton of information including handwritten letters from Charles Robbins Sr himself!!! It seems he did not pass away but did leave his wife. It sounds like he was living a pretty straight life (she was not) in...

Yes, an I have found no connection to the name Twells for the Robins family either, so I'm thinking its more random but it seems unusual.

Maybe they worked there and that's what forced them (back?) into crime. Then they felt guilty - that's a fanciful story. It's probably more random than that.

This was from the Annual Reports of 1907/08 https://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/immigration/immigration-records/home-children-1869-1930/immigration-records/Pages/item.aspx?IdNumber=176080

I have no idea, they literally just sent the two pages attached. I mean I did just ask for documentation on Ellen, but a little background pages wouldn't have hurt.

That's what I suspected by the researchers over here seems to think it was unusual so i thought I'd check to see if there was a connection. Apparently, it was more common for philanthropists to donate just to the overall home instead of a specific child. Apparently Middlemore also went to...

ok, another weird question. I got some documents from the Gov't of Canada that indicate Ellen's support/training and settlement in Canada were paid for by a Mrs. Robert Purdom. From what I gather this was somewhat unusual to have donations directed specifically to a child unless there was some...

"Brick-throwing habits". Phrase I never expected to read. Guess it was a case of who threw the first brick

I come from good stock apparently lol. Maybe I need to request to also pull the GGG-grandparents records too. At this rate, there's bound to be something. Doubtful they started being law-abiding citizens when they joined Mary in Bham. where were you able to find the papers at? I'd have no clue...

Yes, That was her brother. I'm not sure they saw each other after settlement, I can't track him over here after his first placement. its possible he changed his name as they listed him as adopted son on the census.

Yes, she was settled in the same village my grandfather grew up in. I think that's how ellen ended up in that town and meet my g-grandfather as her sister was there.

That's so cool! Maybe someday I will actually get there to visit! I had a chance to visit the tenement museum in Manhattan a couple years ago, so I suspect it might be similar. I applied to the West Mid lands Police Museum for a record search to see if they have anything on Charles and Mary...

This is very helpful! I'm stunned that it's only a mile! Its appears so densely populated and far apart! I'm assuming this would have been primarily working class/industrial areas?
