I always had the same one. At the end of the day after paying in, I would put it in a small locker to which I had a key. This locker had no back to it, which enabled the ticket numbers to be checked against what I had paid in. This check was carried out randomly but, was usually once a fortnight.

This is an incident that happened in Whitehead Street during October 1963. I wonder if anyone living in the area at the time remembers it. My girlfriend of 3 months lived next door to the house in the photo and the Mr Albert Rogers mentioned in the article was my future Father-in-Law.

A photo from the Alton Douglas book, Birmingham in the 60s. It shows the corner shop run by a Mrs Herbert which was on the corner of Whitehead St & Alma St. It was taken in 1967 when the Street was closed due to the coming re-development.

Just came across this pic which was taken at the same time as my other photo. This time looking to the corner of Whitehead Street & Alma Street. The open ground on the right was part of the petrol station.

I was a bus conductor in 1969 at Coventry Road Garage. We used to have certain shops on 53 & 54 route that would make us a billy can of tea to drink at the terminus. It cost us 4d!

In 1959 I lived 28 Birchfield Road right opposite Mansfield Rd (marked red). It was a big Georgian type house and must have belonged to someone of note back in the day. Whitehead Street was a short Street which lay between High St & Alma St Aston. We had our wedding reception at the "Sharholders" in 1967 which stood on the corner of Park Lane & Potters Hill. It's still there now, derelict and standing on it's own. Does anyone know why it hasn't been demolished? Did they give it a listing along with the Bartons Arms? (joke)

As I stated in post #80 I first worked at Rowland Keen shop in Bath St on the corner of Shadwell St (opposite St Chads). Would love to see a photo if it exists. Also, any info on them would be welcome. Looking at that post again I notice I should have put St Marys Row NOT Bath Row!

Yes, I remember Flights who were opposite Gower St. They also had a place in Victoria Rd opposite Potters Hill .My Aunt's pub:I remember walking up Villa St from Nursery Rd and it was on the left (not on a corner). Sorry, couldn't find any photos they may have been hacked.
