Elan Valley and its Pipeline into Birmingham.

I think the contractor for the reservoirs at Frankley was Robert Mcalpine (Concrete Bob). To get the materials to the site a spur railway line was built from the branch line which ran from Halesowen to Longbridge somewhere near the Hunnington viaduct (Near Bluebird toffees - remember them). I...

    Occupations That Have Faded Away

In the mid 50's there was a shop in Quinton that repaired ladders in ladies stockings. The person doing the job sat in the front window of the shop. I can't imagine that job exists now.

    Canals and Streetview

I think this a development by Google maps of a camera (usually mounted on their cars) in a backpack so they can access paths etc. not accessible by car. I think it is their intention to cover byways, pathways and cliff paths etc. in the future.

    Wilmot Breeden Limited

Development model in this case means developing your muscles in your left leg! The thing I remember about the vehicle was an electrically heated windscreen which was probably a recent innovation then. Were you the one who made the phone call from Onich? Arnold

    Printer and printing problems

Apparently the reason it does not work is that there is some software in the cartridges that counts the number of copies that it does and then switches it off so the refilling does not do anything. Unless you can find a way to rewind the software to zero nothing will happen. This seems to be...

    Naming on OS maps

My personal experience of naming things on OS maps was when we had been in to our present property a few days and I was working outside when a man approached me and said "I am from the OS. Can you tell me the name for your property" (The houses are named on this road- not numbered). This threw...

    Birmingham Children’s hospital

I was aware that it was my sisters fault. She was always much brighter than me so I always lived in her shadow- Grammar school (Oldbury Grammar)-university (Manchester U). I had to make do with Sec Mod (Four Dwellings) & Smethwick Tech but I did manage to get an HNC. Unfortunately my sister died...

    Science Museum Newhall Street

Yes it is very sad that the Museum has gone. I have not been to the Think Tank but judging by some of the comments that have been made it seems to be geared towards young children and also dumbed down. Generally I do not like modern museums- you spend ages looking at video displays describing...
