    Railway Stables

Heartland, the stables you mention at Moor Street, would these be the ones that are located in the tunnel ? If so there was also a blacksmiths shop within them, and the tethering posts are still in there.

Bilberry Hill training centre Association of Boys Clubs

I drove past Bilberry Hill Training Centre this afternoon, i noticed that the council are putting protective coverings over the doors and windows. Sadly it looks like its going to stay shut for a very long time.

    Snow Hill Station

Mark, i know that at least three books have been published on Snow Hill Station, but these photos have never been seen before. Just a thought, do you have enough material for another book ? I know it can be a chore but you seem to have some fantastic material, which is already generating a lot...

The list of buildings that the BCC have neglected is endless Lyn.

Bilberry Hill training centre Association of Boys Clubs

Agreed Lyn, they only painted it about three years ago. It seems to deteriorate by the week. Further to the Cadbury family, they also donated the Lickey Hills country park to BCC. And although it falls inside the Worcestershire, the BCC are thinking of charging to use the car parks now. One...

Bilberry Hill training centre Association of Boys Clubs

You are correct Superdad3, Bilberry hill training centre (tea rooms) closed a few months ago. Living right by there i noticed it was well used, especially at weekends. The last group to use it returned the keys back to the owners which is Birmingham City Council, and it now stands empty. I...

    Birmingham characters

Further to starting this thread, a few years after the "bottle man" got killed, another tramp emerged on our patch. His was known as Arthur, and was often seen around the area pushing all his belongings about in a pushchair. His favourite trick was to sit in the doorway of the chipshop opposite...

I know we have had a few "down and outs" and various tramps and vagrants in our city and outer districts, but there were some charachters amongst them. I will start with one that i remember as a kid. Living in Cotteridge (Kings Norton) for a good chunk of my life, i became aware of a guy who...

    Gas Street basin

I remember when they drained Gas Street basin in the mid 80s. I went for a look one afternoon. The gear that was pulled out of there was astonishing, purses, wallets, a safe, video recorders, bikes, motor bikes, you name it , it was in there. An interesting afternoon.

    Tony Butler

Loved Tony Butlers radio programme, yes he caused a good few arguments with his phone-in , but it was compulsive listening. Apparently he was a Speedway rider in his day and rode for Wolverhampton Wolves a couple of times .Is that where his saying "ON YER BIKE" came from ?

    Cadbury: Canal Boat History

Regarding the Nick Sanders trip to Bournville. OK this may seem a bit late, but i and my colleague Don, actually unloaded these Cocoa beans at Bournville. We were the last of the "handballers" of unloading. We were filmed unloading the sacks, and had a great chat with Nick. It was a lovely sunny...

    Birmingham Amateur Football Teams

I remember Joey Stone Gwynfor, he worked with me at Cadburys. We played together a couple of times for the works team. By then he was by far the oldest player in the team, but he still had the ability. We both shared a love of the Wolves. He got married late in life and moved over to...

    Snow Hill Station

Yes Lyn, definetly in use. Before they re-opened it they shotblasted it and took several inches of soot off the tunnel roof.

    Snow Hill Station

I always wondered what became of him. With his knowledge he could and should have wrote that book about monument lane. He knew his stuff about Snow Hill also.
