    30 Lombard St Cheapside

It has been demolished I am afraid, although here is a picture I took in 2006: Photos replaced by what I think are same as originals And another one I took showing its position relative to Cleary's pub (also gone): This is what it all looks like now :-(...

Hurst Street junction with Inge St

Well yes, I wondered that - except that on the Hurst St thread a couple of people (who know a lot more than I do) said it was Inge St. Could it be the corner of Hurst St and Kent St maybe? Paul

Hurst Street junction with Inge St

I'm getting confused looking at these pictures - could someone help please? The first picture here shows the Hippodrome on the corner of Hurst St and Inge St: https://forum.birminghamhistory.co.uk/showthread.php?t=33029 yet the second picture on this thread shows the same corner just a few...

    Houses in City Centre

Yes but Victorian houses are easy to find in central London - in Birmingham they are very rare and exclusive ;-)

    Houses in City Centre

Don't know about the others, but at least one of them is in private hands - it was sold a couple of times a few years ago: https://www.mouseprice.com/house-prices/land-registry/b5-5pg?Mode=SP I would LOVE to own one of those houses! Don't think there are any in Claybrook St anymore. Paul

    Radio Gramaphone Developments

I just googled him - you can see what he looks like here! https://austinmotor.co.uk/aussieaustins.htm From the front, not very different from his Birmingham relations. But from behind: https://farm2.static.flickr.com/1317/858231358_bee2e5d5a0.jpg I think he must have some relations in...

    Radio Gramaphone Developments

Hi Austin You could try a site specialising in vintage radio. For example, this one seems to have a lot of clever people on it: https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/index.php Regards Paul

    Your oldest domestic tool

I think we should treat different appliances differently! I still use a 1973 HMV portable TV in the kitchen. And a 1972 Bush radio. In the living room I use a 1982 colour TV with a Freeview box. In the living room I also use a 1975 Pioneer stereo receiver (it is on most of the time). And the...

    Back-to-back Houses

Thanks for the replies, and apologies if my original post wasn't clear. If I lived in a blind-back house, I would want to put some windows in the back. Even small windows (e.g. porthole size) would make a huge difference to the ventilation, and they wouldn't be hard to fit. Even a DIYer...

    Back-to-back Houses

Although I didn't grow up in a back-to-back, most of my ancestors seem to have. I've noticed that as well as back-to-backs, Birmingham had a good number of "blind-back" houses in spaces where there was not room for a back-to-back. Presumably they could have put windows at the back of the...

    Sweeneys , tv rentals

I bought one of their ex-rental Ferguson sets in 1989 from their shop in Acocks Green - it would have been made in 1982 I think. I am still using it as my main TV set now! Perhaps I was lucky? I don't want a flat screen - it wouldn't fill the space in the corner properly ;-) Regards Paul

    Britannia Place, St Paul's Square?

Thank you very much Mike! Although that is pretty much what I expected, it is great to get confirmation. Now I've got to try to find a pic ... Regards Paul
