Thanks for the pic. It was always a great relief to me when visiting Brum again to see that the library was still there and still open when so many other buildings and facilities have gone. Long may it remain.

Most of what you have written (up to the final '11+' reference, was my experience too. Weren't we lucky and we didn't know it at the time.

Hi, It seems you left Kings Heath School not long after I started there. I left in 1965 and went to St Paul's Girls Grammar School across the city off the Hagley Road. My parents wanted me to go there but it was a long journey for me on 2 buses. Still, I made some good friends there that I'm...

    A trip to the dentist

The gas had a certain smell. I had to have 8 first teeth out in one go, or maybe they did it in two goes, but 8 went anyway. It was a bit of a nightmare for me at that age. I could recall the smell of that gas for a long time afterwards. After that I looked after my teeth. The dentist told my...

I remember going to the swimming pool. That was where I learned to swim and dive. I continued swimming at my secondary school and achieved the bronze and silver swimming badges and a life saving certificate. I'm happy that the primary school gave me a love of swimming. I also enjoyed playing...

Pickavance was an unusual name. She was the teacher who taught me to read and write as I remember it. That would have been in 1960. I remember having to repeat joined up letters in a sort of pattern as we practised writing. As I was left handed, my writing was never the neatest. I don't remember...

I'm a bit confused now. He definitely must have gone to Mosely Art School as he became a self-employed draughtsman for a living but he passed the 13+ and there was said to be a grammar stream at the school although it majored in art. Sadly my brother, who was 8 years older than me, passed on 7...

    A trip to the dentist

I used to go to the same dentist with equal trepidation. I remember one time he dropped his instruments and another time he filled a tooth which continued to jump on a nerve. He offered to take it out plug it for a week and pit another one in. I could not face that and told him to remove the tooth.

I also went to that school and loved it. I was there from about 1959 to 1965. My brother and sisters went to Bishop Challoner's School but my brother passed a 13+ exam and transferred to Moseley Grammar School which was mainly an Art School. I passed the 11 + so did not go to Bishop Challoner's

I went to the original Kings Heath Infants and Junior Schools on Institute Road until 1965. I also lived in Springfield Road but left there in 1972. My family still lived there until 1977.

I don't think that photo could have been taken in Kings Heath School, Institute Road, because the pupils around him seem to be wearing a uniform and I don't remember any uniform at that school, or his visit. I would have been in 1962 so in the first year of Juniors.

Hello, I was a pupil at Kings Heath Primary and Junior Schools. I started when I was about 5 so that would have been about 1959. I'm trying to remember my first teacher's name. I remember the word Heart was in her surname and she was a lovely teacher (maybe it was Miss Hartman). I throroughly...

    Saltley College

I grew up in Kings Heath. Little did I know that my future husband who was not a Brummie, had an Uncle who was Vice Principal of St Peter's College, Saltley. His Uncle's name was Robert Seaman. He passed on in about 1985.
