    City Centre Photographs

Always sad to see how nice it used to be. I'm 'only' fifty and from the inner city, so too young to have seen a more homogenous and clean Birmingham, where people still took pride in their stoop and appearance and everything seemed classier.

I'm pretty sure it is indeed 1970. My parents moved into Hodgson tower in 1970 and it's just about to be built in the photo, (it must have gone up quick!) - so it could be late 1969, but likely spring 1970, with the wheeler street shops already complete and the maisonettes on Guildford drive...

Slightly before my time, but I do believe it was 1968-1969 This is Lennox Street in 1968 and it still extends all the way up to New John Street.

Same area as my first pictures above, but taken aerially in 1945, prior to the slum clearances of Lennox street and Wheeler street etc

Hiya, no problem. On the right there is Hampton Primary, St. George's new church was not yet built. I'm from the area myself (Hodgson Tower, Hampton, St. George's, Hospital Street) Here's a picture of St. George's new church being built. I also have a load of pictures of St. George's in the...

Clearing out my late father's old drives, saw these that I'd never seen before. The slums of Newtown being cleared out and the area redeveloped, photo of Geach tower B19 being built and then a photo from the tower, looking north toward Lozells and Aston.

It's a good thing to digitally capture your original photos. Both the photo paper and the chemical printing process will only last ~50 years even when taken care of, especially if not kept in the dark and dry (which defeats the point of a photo!) Here I've adjusted the light levels and painted...

Cheers. Are you really in Franklin, TN? - I moved back to the UK after exactly twenty years in nearby Wake Forest, NC and I'm pretty sure I've worked in Franklin. Same-state Knoxville is one of my favourite towns (great airport, friendly people) and Pigeon Forge was always one of my father's...

AI is part of the process I use, more specifically a Generative Adversarial Network, or GAN, which is a type of Deep Neural Network, basically yes. but it's also 90% Lightroom, hand tinted colour and light usually. I've been doing a lot of free portraits of late. I don't use AI for colour.
