Even I can work this one out - The Sycamore on the corner of Sycamore Road and Park Road, an Atkinsons pub, it has a fine lamp over the door and amazing chimneys and a fine selection of chimney pots. There are a few hangers above ground floor level. Looking down sycamore Road the is a nice swan...

    OLD BIRMINGHAM PHOTOS FROM STEVEBHx

Good point Trevor, and with hindsight a good idea - but at the time, I and perhaps others did not connect the importance or the interest these sort of images would generate. ( I totally agree with your comment - its not seen as a "dig" ) There was also a change in working practises - the...

    OLD BIRMINGHAM PHOTOS FROM STEVEBHx

Hi Trevor, these photos were all stored in a room in the Basement at Baskerville House (Broad Street), there was a large cabinet with slide trays, all the colour pictures are from them, not all slides were saved, it was a case of a quick hold up to the light and save it, the pictures were all...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Next we move up to The Albion Vaults corner of Nechells Place and Cato Street - not the best of images- background is rather washed out so that the image is visable. Corner pub set in the industrial landscape.

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Next we have described as an " Old cafe house in Nechells Place" and it does look pretty much as described - looking like the terrace is slowly disappearing from the right - we can make out the remains of fireplaces on the ground and first floors the roof of the cafe is disappearing abd it...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

The last picture from the site and I can only guess that they are stripping the building out and throwing it in a skip, large gates have been installed to provide security , but we have seen how well that worked, Funny to think that over 40 years have passed and the building has just sat there.

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Next we get voyeuristic, peering through doors and gates to see how the negelect is progressing, although it is out of use it still looks an impressive brick built building . massive windows, delivery rails sticking out of the floors and the walls on the ground floor starting to crumble

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Moving to the Mill proper and now very run down - trees growing out of it and much of the roof missing . seen back in the 1989 when it was still held together, we can see the former delivery tower one column of windows from the left which would have been enclosed and held pulley or lift to move...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

The next few picture were taken in Cato Street North and are in or near the Old Mill - first is the demolition of a building a few doors down Mainly included as it is been knocked down, it is showing what was there - we can just make out the Gasometers in the background, an old JCB and a few...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Next we move to Roll 10 - this is another roll with a shortage of images - the first half are photos from a calendar that has had pictures cut out - not very good the first real image is the corner of Adderley Street and Ash road and we have the Adderley Park pub, white brick building pretty...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

The last picture is rather random but is a group of lads on the corner of Arthur Place with one looking through the gap in the fence on the corner of the two roads. One of those times and locations that would mean something to someone. Summer, long shorts and off out exploring - different times !!

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

I have a couple of pictures off the end of Roll 7 , not buildings but may be of interests or actually be someone or somewhere that people know. First is a Scout, with an old uniform, hat, cord, neckerchief and long shorts and socks. Seems very proud of his uniform and looks very smart

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Last picture, I was not paying attention so we have another picture of the Duke of Cambridge - following on with the old and a new pictures this is a new picture , but again no year. Much changed from the previous photo, and a later design vibe going on - black walls with the striped lines...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

This large stone building is the Granville in Granville Street, from the carving at the top of the building it was made in 1923 for M & B , curved topped windows downstairs , square topped upstairs and a carved roof surround. Figures look a little ghostly - added later?

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

This fine brick building is the Dudley Arms Cape Hill, so many styles on this building with the stone clad entrance, brickwork, brick and stone pillars, carving over windows and inlaid brick eaves too. there is also metalwork around the top of the bay windows on the front.

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Next we have a view of a corner pub , this been the Duke of Cambridge in Great King Street, I am not sure of a year but I like the white brick walls, the chimney stacks and the lamp on the corner and the street names on the walls. Moving down the right hand side is a large bay window and we can...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Moving on we now have the " new " Star Inn, much changed from the past I am afraid , the only real link is the curved frontage and roof line . A much simplified layout from previous and the windows have all been made the same size. Dark wood entrances no more etched windows and only a small bit...
