    Harborne

Thanks Handlebar. Better safe than sorry with potential scam. No, I can't remember any fraternisation between different scout groups either, although there was the odd jamboree and other joint events. I particularly remember an event in the woods at Sutton Park where each group was given a...

    Harborne

Was it the Ariel hut that was used for annual arts/crafts competitions between scout groups? I still have some of my certificates from these events. I was in 293rd St Faith and St Laurence - a top outfit!

    Harborne

Here is a map of Harborne which shows the location of the former workhouse and answers the questions about Upper Ravenhurst, Moor Pool Lane and Gillhurst Road. Quite a lot of what is depicted chimes with my knowledge of Harborne as I was growing up.

Growing Up In Brum - Roy Blakey Inspired.

Ah yes. A plank of wood, two sets of old pram wheels (with axles), two more pieces of wood to fix the axles to, the largest nut and bolt assembly you could find to let you swivel the front axle and a length of rope to steer with.

    Soho Foundry

This takes me back. I was a commercial graduate trainee with W&T Avery in the early '70s. They sponsored my Business Studies degree and as well as time at the Soho Foundry I spent time at their Manchester and London offices. I have happy memories of one Christmas booze up at the Soho...

    A visit to the Doctor.

This thread opens up lots of possibilities. Our GP when I was young was Dr Ezzat. His practice was a fairly large but poorly adapted house on the corner of Court Oak Road and Tennal Lane. There were no appointments and you would simply take the next available chair and wait your turn. Good job...

    New Street Station From 1854 - 1966

    Looks like 'touche'!

    Sherborne Road Dudley Park Road

As you say Astoness, the area now bears little or no relationship to the photo so I thought the puzzle might take longer to solve. No such luck.

    New Street Station From 1854 - 1966

OK Hawkeye, you are right! I could pretend that I was waiting for someone to spot the deliberate mistake, but the photo I posted (from a set I 'inherited') is clearly marked on the back as 'New Street Station looking out at Station Street' and I just accepted that as true. However, having...

Well, that didn't take long did it? Spot on, of course.

    Sherborne Road Dudley Park Road

I've been really impressed by members' ability to identify places from very little information and/or very poor photos. Here is quite a good photo. Can anyone say where it was taken?

    Some Birmingham Buses

Another few photos for aficionados of the omnibus. I only really identify with the old cream and blue variety. I did once travel on a Midland Red, but it felt like travelling in a foreign land.

    New Street Station From 1854 - 1966

Another somewhat 'moody' photo of New Street Station, looking out at Station Street. You almost expect a character from 'The Third Man' to step from the shadows - or is that too fanciful for New Street?

Here is another unusual shot of New Street Station looking out at Station Street

    Tyseley Locomotive Works

I am attaching some photos of steam locos at or near Tyseley Junction, most of them Castle Class and including Pendennis Castle, Clun Castle and Ince Castle. I have cheated slightly by including a photo of Pendennis Castle at Wolverhampton Low Level when it was still in use - sad to watch it...

    Steam Weekend Hanbury(Stoke Prior)

If you are a steam enthusiast you might like to see these photos from a steam rally in Hockley Heath. Not sure when these were taken, but the few clues I can see suggest 50s or early 60s

Some more buses, with pretty impressive artwork.

A random collection of buses, including a Midland Red.

Red Lion Inn - Ridgacre Quinton

There were numerous times when my children were young that we would travel along the M5 to exit at junction 3 and go to visit family. I am sure they know by heart my reminiscences about how the M5 and Quinton Expressway now run through land which was open farmland when I was a child. I can still...

Red Lion Inn - Ridgacre Quinton

Scot, I had a quick look at the info on F.C. Pewtress. The records I have access to show that he died in Worcestershire. The place you refer to sounds like an abbreviation of The Derby County Lunatic Asylum - by definition in Derbyshire, not in Worcestershire. I wonder if the 'R Sly Hall'...
