I think what it means is that the tram company have a right to operate buses in place of trams even if the road is not licensed for buses. The tram company had a legal obligation to maintain the not just where their tracks were but up to a certain distance each side of their tracks.

Could someone please remind me of the name of the church in the background behind the no. 7 bus. I was thinking Church of the Redeemer but that was on the Hagley Road near the Ivy Bush.

I may have said this before but my mother told me that many times she would be running back home as the church bells were ringing for her hat and gloves as she had to pass her grandmother's house and if her grandmother saw her out without hat and gloves she knew that her father would get told off.

There was a Goods Station on the opposite side of Curzon Street from the former passenger station. There was a level crossing across Curzon Street, I believe the only level crossing in Birmingham. It could be a photo from there.

How many of them would have survived the First World War. I doubt many as they would have been in from the start.

Looking at the relative positions of the two hotels, I can see they could be easily confused. I had not realised the Friday Bridge and the old Wharfs were so close to Great Charles Street.

I am thinking that the 4 Storey Building on the left might be Lloyds Bank (Birmingham Old Bank) which was on the corner of Ann Street and Eden Place. Is there any way you can confirm this please

The image of the church on the medallion is that of St Philip's church before the east end was enlarged. Christchurch was built as an overflow for St Philips because of the population increase in the area but was demolished about 100 years later when population numbers declined.

The King George III medal commemorates the fact that he funded the building of the tower of St Philip's when the money ran out for the building of that church, now the cathedral.

I, too, was trying to remember what the Forum entrance looked like. I think I only went there a couple of times because we had good cinemas in the area where I lived so we got films as soon as they were on general release.
