Address plaques and nameplates for Terraces, Villas, Places etc

Off topic I'm afraid as this does not have a name on it (unless there is something I've missed hidden in the brickwork)- Just an interesting plaque and brickwork slowly disintegrating - sitting above a gateway between 530 and 532 Moseley Road, Balsall Heath. - Sheep? Lion? Cow? Camel?

    Do you recognise this place?

These Gateposts in Fox Hollies Road? - They don't look the same to me. Too squat and pointy. These gateposts are for Fox Hollies Hall - See link below. The house does not look anything like the house in the photo - No Dutch gable...

    Do you recognise this place?

Something about it reminds me of Uffculme house, built for the Cadbury family, now the Uffculme Centre on Queensbridge Road at the end of Kings Heath. It's probably the chimneys and Dutch gable that remind me of it - Other things are not the same, like the twin spikey towers.

    Where is this vehicle ?

About here- (see link) - you can see the tower of Central Hall and the distinctive domed turret on one corner of the building in the photo. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.4843813,-1.8924464,3a,75y,159.73h,96.27t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s6RUcDzXkm5XpaFdlvzmISQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?coh=205409&entry=ttu

    Colmore Row

It looks very much like the Morgan "Grand Prix" model without a windscreen - That rear wheel covered with an arch-like enclosure along with the low driver position is quite distinctive. https://www.hagerty.com/media/member-stories/this-1920-grand-prix-three-wheeler-is-as-morgan-as-it-gets/

    Elmdon Airport Birmingham International Airport

A couple of poor-quality half-tone press photos from Elmdon airport's opening on a rainy 8th July 1939. One of the huge, new four-engined Armstrong Whitworth Ensign airliners (G-ADSW "Eddystone" of Imperial Airways) put in an appearance. https://www.dingeraviation.net/ensign/ensign.html...

    General Election history, Birmingham

The ability to stand for Parliament has usually gone hand-in-hand with the ability to vote. Only after men without property were allowed to vote were men without property allowed to stand for Parliament. Only after Women were given the vote were women allowed to stand for Parliament etc... I...

    Plans for Digbeth/Highgate area

I always thought the alternative "City Park 4 Brum" plan was better. It also made a feature of the River Rea and also the moat of the old Birmingham castle. It had shops and housing but a bit more green space and a lot of buildings repurposed rather than being knocked down. Shame it was rejected...

    Corporation Street

Interesting! - The building seems to have stood the test of time well. It has a new glass facia facing onto Old Square. Of course the sunken shops and associated subways have long gone. - Modern view today at link below...

    Incendiary bombs across Birmingham

British and American incendiaries were made of phosphorous. - You can use water to quench phosphorous, but you have to be very careful it does not spread the phosphorous particles since they will reignite when the water drys out. The Germans used Thermite in their smaller incendiaries, which...

    Help please with RAF badges

Hi Viv, The badges were standard for all NCO aircrew at that time - So not just specific to OCU (Operational Conversion Unit) training. 236 OCU specialised in training aircrew in maritime patrol, reconnaissance and anti-submarine work. The Lancaster GR3 (GR stood for "General Reconnaissance) was...

    Help please with RAF badges

A bit of background on those badges. Before WW2 the RAF had officer pilots who would also serve as Navigators. The Air Gunners, bomb-aimers and wireless operators carried in aircraft would be volunteers from "ground trades" who would only do rudimentary short courses in their flying duties and...

    Help please with RAF badges

Hi Viv, - They are a short-lived badge of rank for aircrew. Used between 1947 and 1950. Not a well-liked system, which is why it was short-lived - Your Dad seems to be "Aircrew 4" with one "star"

    Lee Crescent, Lee Bank

Thanks Viv - I drove up Lee Bank Middleway yesterday and saw the group of buildings on the other side of the almost "Village Green" park in front of them - What a contrast to the high-rise flats on the other side of the dual carriageway! So to complete our listing 35-36 Lee Crescent, Wineyford...

Address plaques and nameplates for Terraces, Villas, Places etc

Maybe a new contender for the oldest plaque so far. Set back from the busy Lee Bank Middleway is Lee Crescent, with an almost surreal "Cathedral Close" vibe to it. One of the elegant buildings has a plaque on it - Hard to read on Google Streetview - I've attached two screen grabs from...
