    Saltley & Alum Rock

Reginald Road back garden late 1950's, looking towards the back of houses on Ralph Road. An enhanced and colourised picture of my parents in their garden in Reginald Road, with the inevitable shed at the top of the garden. There was an alleyway at the top of the garden, but only used by the...

    High Street, Saltley

I remember in the 60's buying my first record from that record shop, and my first guitar from the second-hand shop nearby. Come to think of it I bought a bike there too

Marsh Hill Boys Grammar Tech School

Yes, Mr Platt. He used to play the piano in the classroom when he gave us tests. I remember him playing pub tunes.

Marsh Hill Boys Grammar Tech School

Hi Dave, I remember you well, especially in Biology as I don't think you liked the teacher much at the girl's school. If memory serves, the last time I met you you were the manager of a shop on Alum Rock and I went in to buy something. I was a student at St Peter's College nearby. I was a...

Marsh Hill Boys Grammar Tech School

I remember someone hiding in a box so that you could lift up a real arm, or was that Hare? I know people in the audience gasped.

Marsh Hill Boys Grammar Tech School

I was thinking I'd have to go there next time I'm in Birmingham. They must have some photographic record of the school.

    Bromford Racecourse

Yes. I went to Marsh Hill Boy's School. I'm writing about it for my grandchildren and wanted a picture, but found that it has since been demolished and apparently airbrushed out of history ;)

    Bromford Racecourse

There are a couple of newspaper reports and group pictures, but I just wanted a general external picture of the school, and can't find anything on the internet at all.

Marsh Hill Boys Grammar Tech School

I remember it as a kind of emergency course to learn survival cookery for when we were away from home and fending for ourselves, and it did help when I found myself in that very situation.

    Bromford Racecourse

Hi. It brings back memories. Do you know, I can't find a single photograph of either the boy's or the girl's school. Trying to write about my life for the grandchildren.

    Bromford Racecourse

Me too. I remember the brick-built changing rooms, and then on to the rugby pitches. I know there were some other playing fields we were taken by bus to when the racecourse closed, but I can't remember where. I do remember doing cross country around Witton Lakes.

Marsh Hill Boys Grammar Tech School

I remember the whole school out on the playground after the stabbing, staff trying to keep us from going to the Secondary school. I also went to cookery at the girl's school when in the sixth form for 'Cookery for those about to go to University'.
