I remember the Music Box well. I bought Space Oddity and Purple Haze from it in the late 60s. I remember Tesco's on the High Street at the same time too. We used to call their jeans Tesco Tearaways... ;)

It gets very busy on match days, so I guess the new taps will speed up the service and maximise takings, to help keep the pub going. Not so sure about having too many away fans in though. As has been said, the taps are not the issue. Keeping it open and retaining what makes it so important is.

I think this is going to be a lot different to those tower blocks. They will be occupied by people who can afford sky high rents to go with the sky high altitude. They will be less likely to be prone to the feelings of isolation, that people who were moved from areas in which they knew everyone...

Fair play to anyone that is going to live in those upper floors (I couldn't even go near those windows to look out of them, myself). I certainly wouldn't have gone up in that outside lift, let alone got out of it! :scream:

I guess it was more noticeable to me, with the bakery shop just a couple of shops up from us Lyn.

I remember the local bakery shop on the corner of Slade Road and Fentham Road was kept very busy. All the "regular's" bread was kept behind the counter with their names on it and Mr Salmon baked extra loaves to try to satisfy local shoppers who faced going without their "Mother's Pride".

Yes Lyn, I was at the semi finals and the final myself. It will be emotional at Villa Park on Saturday and I know a few tears will be in the eyes of the crowd when we pay our respects to Gary.

It seems there may have been a fair few who fought in WW1 and then went on to be in the Home Guard in WW2 Chris. My grandfather was another, like your father and Bert. Thank you for sharing those photographs.

It seems very familiar to somewhere that I remember passing quite regularly, perhaps near the railway arches by New Canal Street in the early 60s or it may resemble something similar also associated with/near to the railway around Small Heath. I can't recall exactly where I'm thinking of, but...

Do you know who the children are and if they have connections to you, could you give a very rough idea of whereabouts in Birmingham that they may have lived? Few of us would have got away with the lad's haircut by the way, it's some way off the usual short back and sides, isn't it? ;)
