They bought it in 1947 and converted it into a hotel in 1950. Most recently it was run by Ramada Hotels. I went to a couple in the 80s. Nice and handy for those living in and around Erdington, I rather liked it there.

It's still there, but it is not currently open as a hotel.

Yes, I've picked up my son and his friends from gigs too and I wasn't the only one waiting, we each gave each other a knowing smile, as we waited in the twilight hours for our kids to come out from Muse and My Chemical Romance concerts, for example. ;)

I think it's what you become used to. I doubt my Nan or parents would have ever gone for a quilt. I used to like blankets too, but my wife has had us use a duvet since the 80s and I'm a convert.

Even I was able to put together IKEA furniture. Everything from easy chairs to kitchen units. They were built to last and the instructions were easy to follow, like yourself we still have some IKEA items including a 5-drawer cabinet in the garage, that I put together 30 years ago.

No, it's free admission still Lyn. It will be interesting to see what changes have been made, hopefully most of the previous exhibits will eventually still be there (I believe it isn't fully open yet) and the city haven't gone too "woke" on us.

Crazy isn't it? Then 30 - 40 odd years later, most of us would be saying the same to the next generation, having worried all night, like our parents had, until they made it back home. ;)
