A few more things to try if you haven't already: Right click on the taskbar and select 'Startup'. All items can normally be disabled except anything relating to antivirus/security. Then look in the Processes tab and check that none of the items on the top line are running near 100%. Memory...

    Our childhood toys

Going back to trains - my dad bought me this loco must be mid to late '50's. It still sits in its original box but the writing on the lid faded into obscurity many years ago although I have managed to bring it back to life using the scanner. The engine ran on a 5-pole motor rather than the usual...

    IN OUR GARDEN 2024

The azaleas and rhododendrons are looking good at the moment - the orange one didn't flower at all last year. The grass is a nightmare though - you can almost see it growing!

Bluebells in my front bed. The more I dig them out, the more they multiply! On the plus side, once they are over the flowers and leaves can be pulled up leaving a clear space for the summer bedding.

    Birmingham silver makers marks

Unfortunately this doesn't add up! George Unite was born in 1798 and worked with James Hilliard from 1825 to 1845. I don't think the date letter is 'e' (1802) (George would have been 4 years old then) and looks more like Q which is 1865. However by 1865 the partnership had been dissolved. On...

Hi Aggie2347. Unfortunately the part of the photo showing your Grandfather was the most damaged so I've had a bit of a struggle with this, I presume that as a corporal (I think) he would have been wearing trousers rather than breeches which the two officers are sporting. However I'm not an...

I couldn't make out whether the post box was free standing or built into the wall so I've erected a new free standing one to be going on with!

Unfortunately not Lyn. I sold it in 1963 (for £100) as I was saving up to get married!

    Mulliners

The bodywork of my 1954 Triumph Renown was built by Mulliners. Some of the panels - doors and boot lid - were aluminium (or similar alloy). I think the wings and bonnet were steel.
