Does anyone know where this was?

The water tower shown in the photo is possibly the rectangular structure I've coloured red (marked W before I painted it!) Judging by the shadows in the picture the photographer was looking in an approximately easterly direction so probably along the blue line but I can't account for the road or...

    WW1 woman in uniform

I can't help with this one but wonder if you could shed any light on this WW2 uniform which was discussed at length a while ago without coming to any conclusions! See...

    Computer help

Odd one is this! I'm just wondering if the problem is with the ethernet card in the PC. If you're OK diving into the innards of the PC try removing the card, wipe the connections with a soft lint-free cloth and replace, first taking the usual precautions i.e. switch off pc, disconnect from the...

Long shot but have you tried a different ethernet cable? I've recently been caught out by a faulty cable (see post #86) and ethernet cables do have a habit of losing connections in the plug.

Sat down this morning ready to take part in the RSPB birdwatch when a neighbour's cat decided to plonk itself down in the middle of my lawn! Result: bird count = zero.

On closer look it could be an anchor. Women’s naval reserve perhaps? Did she live near the coast?

    Vox Fakir Newey Brothers Ltd

I think it is more likely that wireless, in the context of 'Manufacturers of buttons, hooks and eyes, hairpins and wireless accessories' referred to items being made without wire rather than anything to do with what we now call radios. I suspect that the item shown in post #1 may have been...

    Women’s Timber Corps “Lumber Jills”

As you say not very clear but it could be the Women's Timber Corps, part of the Land Army. See https://www.womenslandarmy.co.uk/womens-timber-corps-badge/ Members were also known as Lumberjills.

    My First Car

My first was a 1939/40 Morris 12/4 which I bought 'as seen' (i.e. no warranty) from a local garage. After a week or so I decided to change the engine oil as it seemed a bit on the thick side. Well it must have been filled with gearbox/back axle oil as after refilling with SAE40 the big ends...

Doh!!!! I reinstalled the software as per your link and it still didn't work. After a bit of fiddling around I found that the usb lead was faulty :(. (When I was connecting the scanner to my W7 laptop I was using a different lead). What a muppet!
