    Hi, Oh yes the kids Saturday matinee at the Sheldon, loved it! The Adelphi was in Hay Mills it was nicknamed "The fleapit" for some reason. It was later a bathroom supply place sometime in the 70's as we bought some kitchen cabinets and bench tops there. I think the Tivoli was near The Blues...

    Oh I didnt know that, my son had so many ear infections he had what they called glue ear so couldn't hear clearly so repeated what he heard, fixed with grommets when he was 5. :)

    Hi Morturn, Yes they did and it was mainly women that manned them as most of the men were fighting as someone stated in an earlier post. I enjoyed reading a fiction book a while ago about the "balloon girls" it was a dangerous job and extremely hard work getting the balloons up and down...

    Hi Yes i remember a concrete slab and a large metal ring attached in the park/ grassland behind our house in common lane, sheldon, and dad told me it was a mooring ring for a barrage balloon. It is now called the sheldon country park and the rings may have been removed but now.

    Hi I worked at that Sheldon Telephone exchange from when the new exchange opened in early 1970's till I left in late 1975. it was a modern cordless exchange and i loved working there. Wendy

    Just noticed you mentioned a link with Wales, I am a brummy and mum was welsh (born in the rhonda valley) I often still use the word, maybe I heard mum using it... I love mooching in the charity shops haha
