    IN OUR GARDEN 2023

We had one flew in at my partner's mum's in France it was terrified, pooed everywhere. So we just left it, then when it was darker in the basement it could see the light and flew out via the airbricks.

I will have to also. Buy one. Saw lots of pied wagtails about, they never come in to the garden though. They seem to like the carparks, there are a lot of fast food outlets but even in the supermarket one. Have seen them in the street. We used to get grey and yellow ones in the garden, but not now.

Just had a 'stray' cat asking to come in. It was eating the bird food. Felt sorry for it a little tabby, a bit thin a bit wobbly. Young. It was afraid of my partner though and scuttled off. Maybe our door is like his door?

This one is a different robin it is very nervous. There are 4 but they all look the same to me. Sometimes I think some are fatter they say the females are bigger.? If they have been fighting and get scuffs I can tell them apart.

Ours are fussy too except when the temperature drops. I have tried four or five different seed mixes and there is always something the don't like in each one. Like niger seed, corn, or in this one a small beige oval seed. I also shred suet from a block or a fatball for the robins and the blackbirds.

The pots are cut down plastic water bottles, I do this to try and keep from spilling grain. And it's quicker and easier to top the feeders up.I saw a very cheap bird table in Wilko but it looks cheap with the tacks or nails or staples showing. But is has a bar across the bottom on two sides...

Robin sees me go in to the garage, I say garage loosely, and he slips in under the roof and sometimes sings on a ladder in the rafters then comes down to get first pick. I took a video but the file is too big. I am also unable to open most of your attachments now unless they appear already...

    Occupations That Have Faded Away

I have been helping my partner with some of her family history, for a change. (She usually helps me with mine.) One of her relatives going back a couple of generations, in France, was listed as a Devideuse. It took me a while on several historic French sites to define that it was a woman, who...

    Horses on the canals

That looks a beautiful animal. Long legs. My Nan as a little girl so circa 1912 or before remembers a barge horse drop dead with a heart attack whilst towing the barge. She cried all the way home. Really upset her. Her dad told her they work till they dropped dead. I thought of this as I watched...

    Horses on the canals

One of my relatives was a blacksmith's striker not sure i fthat was industrial or for horses or maybe they did both then? Probably in the Black Country I would think. I have just seen a site on the web about work horses. The picture shows a dray horse with sacking tied around it's feet to stop...
