Hi Arkrite, Sadly Halesowen girls shchool is no longer there, its a housing estate now. But I did manage to go to the very last opening before demolition. I did sit on the english teachers desk, something i would have never dared to in the 60's. Thanks for all the info. Heather

The Plaza's -Handsworth and Old Hill, The Ritz Ballroom- Kings Heath

I loved the Plaza in Old Hill, spent many happy hours there. But Joy of Joy's there is talk of them possibly reopening it again and even getting some of the old bands back. I hope so, then I can relive some of my misspent youth and its within walking distance of our house

    Halesowen Grammar 1959

What a fantastic photo Arkrite, there are a lot of faces on there that look familiar, but I just cannot think of the names. They would be a couple of years older as I went to Halesowen County Modern Girls School in 1961.

    Hop-picking

Great to read these stories, as a kid in the early 60's we used to play in the disused barracks the hop pickers lived in. This was in Eardiston not far from Frith Common by Tenbury Wells.

    birmingham accent,good or bad

I have been interested to read these posts. The differences between a Birmingham accent and a Black Country one are quite striking. Maggie & I went to visit relatives in Wales, they could not understand a word we were saying. Maggie being Birmingham and me being Black Country. We are both...

The impairment was a nervous breakdown due to the fact that the R.A.M.C had taken over a french chalet to use as a sort of field hospital. There were so many casualties that a lot of these brave...
