Urban exploring buildings in & around Brum

Thanks for the kind comments all!! Tacitus, there are generally quite a lot of artifacts worth saving, but the risk of being branded a petty criminal and arrested for theft is not something we could live with. Smarts was full of brand new Argos type furniture, and was a gold mine to prospective...

Urban exploring buildings in & around Brum

Thanks for the reply jennyann! To be honest, you would be suprised at how well kept some of these buildings actually are!! We are regarded quite low on the table of living objects, so to be accepted is quite a gift!!! We just want to save these places from the wrecking ball by capturing what is...

Urban exploring buildings in & around Brum

Hey all, Just as a quick post, I'm an urban explorer who is trying to document our buildings before they are demolished. There are far too many amazing old places that are being knocked down for no reason other than they are no longer "trendy". The following are links to my Flickr account, and...

    C Brandauer & sons

Hey guys. Interesting reading about this place. It's been a long time yearning to get into this place as it is rotting away slowly, and is at great risk.I am one of the aforementioned Urban Explorers, and we really are just here to document these buildings before they disappear. There are a few...

    Severn valley railway.

I've seen some of the off limits stuff that most of you won't see......... It was fun, but I don't think it's worth the risk again!!!!!!! https://www.flickr.com/photos/8776781@N02/sets/72157605993536492/

Workhouse Infirmary 99 Dudley Rd 1 Western Road

I fear that i was spotted entering the building last time, and a week later the boards were being placed around it. There hasn't been any sign of security for years up until that point. I may have been a catalyst in the system deciding to demo the place. It's very un stable, and there are lots...

Here's the best of my shots from the remains of the workhouse. Gutted now, as the demolition boards are now up, and work to remove the building is starting over Xmas...... https://www.flickr.com/photos/8776781@N02/sets/72157608768768002/

    Cato Street North

Phil, can you help me out with the history of this place please? I know it was a mill, similar to JN Miller in olverhampton, but was last used around 1984. Much of the stuff I photographed in there was from that time, when it was used for Asian food stuffs production(still flour production!)

Dudley Road Hospital - Peter Walker

Here's a view of the building I photographed from the air. I'm sure this was the admin and records building in it's last use., as there were still record of death cards in there which went back to the early 1900's. 1910 was about the earliest I found...

    Archway Of Tears

Totally agree about this place. My wife's great Nan Edith Carnell was there in the 20-30's. She was fortunate to be discharged though! I shot this place not so long ago. It seems someting is happening there, as new boards have been erected. Seems like it may be demolished at some point...

Dudley Road Hospital - Peter Walker

I'm afraid I don't know much about this place. My wife's Great Grandmother was admitted there 1920-30's. She was one of the lucky few to come back throught the "Arch-way of tears". I've got some shots of that building here.... https://www.flickr.com/photos/8776781@N02/sets/72157608768768002/...

And also that there was an extension on the top floor roof. Almost looks like an airing cupboard type extension.

Nechells Place Mill Cato Street North/

WOW! Mayfield! That photo is fantastic! I must admit that you are the only person in 9 months of trying to research this building that has shown me an old photo. That looks even more imposing than it does these days. Quite a daunting structure!!!!

    where is this 76

Hi dereklcg. I've heard through some contacts that the highest bidder so far is English partnership. I thought they only bought buildings that were in good working order, THEN knocked them down. Or am I just being bitter?

    where is this 76

Hi all. I was up there yesterday having a look around. All the land at the back of the factory has been cleared and the demolition boards are firmly in place awaiting the bull-dozers I'm afraid. Not good news, but the building is VERY badly fire damaged. The old Moby Dick pub is safe for now at...

    Cutler - Glass Merchants

I've visited the last Pearce and Cutler glass factory many times. It's just around the corner from the Mint, and the old Bullpitts sites. Heres a few photo's, and I think they moved to Witton from here? 77 Pope street Huge place, full of history. Sadly it's now falling to vandals...

    Bulpitt and Sons Birmingham

Re: Bullpitts My Dad, Geoff Lewis worked for Swan in the 70's I think it was. The site was always known as Bullpitts, even after the original site was levelled. Strange! Anyway, was the St. George works opposite what is now an NHS building(called B1) part of the same company? I think my dad...
