The company dates back to 1847 when Ariel made an early pneumatic-tyred wheel for horse drawn carriages. The name was revived by James Starley...

    Moulders

https://www.drummonds-arch.co.uk/resources/1.htm Just to give you a little pictorial history of this job, that link shows you how the job was done. It was VERY labour intensive, VERY hot and VERY hard. Most guys worked 7 days, 12 hours in these places, and they earned next to nothing.

    Moulders

Oldbury/Tipton/Smethwick/West Brom were all very heavy casting areas. Much more than brass and copper use moulds, steel and lots of alloys can be used in moulds. Iron was always a fave in the old foundries. Beans would have been one of the biggest foundies around in the early 1900's, as for...

    Westley Richards Gun Manufacturer/Toolmaker.

Big Gee, the Ariel factory is my next target. The majority of it has been demolished, as it was part owned and used by Boxfoldia, a carton and packaging firm. They moved to Redditch and closed the plant down. It as meant to be used for more student diggs, but it never happened. The building was...

Birmingham Battery & Metal Co Selly Oak

captblack, I can name a LOAD of "listed" buildings that I've been in that are either now burned down, demolished or still rotting away.!!! The worst is probably Corngreaves hall not far from Lye. That has history back to the 1700's but is still left rotting away despite being a rather important...

Less and less are listings actually doing anything to prevent this happening. I can't get over how many building's I've been in are listed, then suddenly get pulled down, or burn down. The scaffolding is to prevent a forward collapse onto the road. If they pull it down from the rear of the...
