With reference to the above photograph this is definitely KEGS Camp Hill for Girls.

I've just found an old photograph. It may well be a relative of my husband!

I sang that at KEGS Camp Hill too c1956-61.

I was at school with a young girl whose name was Guest and we shared the same Christian name.

Thanks for that. My husband John Hawker often talks about his times at Wilmot Breeden and especially about the sea school at Aberdovey.

Are there any old girls out there who aspired to great things under Miss Mandeville's tutilage? Is there anyone else out there who benefitted from Miss Mandevile's tutelage?

I may have asked this question before so apologies if this is so. My husband often talks about the sea school at Aberdovey where apprentices were sent during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Can anyone remember going there?

Thank you all for your replies which are very interesting. I appear to have confused you with my question. I have found Auntie Elsie (Elsie Turner) staying with my grandparents on the 1921 Census in Chase Terrace but the additional information re her occupation was written at the side.

I have today found my great Aunt Elsie on the 1921 Census (currently free on FMP). Her description is Nurse at Low Wood Harborne. Can anyone help me with a question. What was this place and is it still standing please? Judy

I've just come across this thread which I found very interesting. My husband's grandparents, Joseph Henry Blakemore and Edith Silvers, were married at "St. James Church, Ashted" in 1912. Is this the same church you are all talking about here?

With reference to The Roundhouse, a relative recently had a guided tour when it was mentioned that someone had been killed there during its construction. It may have been an ancestor of our family. Dooes anyone know the man's name please?

In the 1940s/1950s my dad Alec Bradbury had a corn and seed merchants shop at the junction of Highfield Road with Alum Rock Road. There was a very deep dark cellar outside on the pavement covered with a wooden lid. The shop had a very wierd smell I seem to remember.

Thank you for your detailed account of the early Brierley Hill glass making industry in the 1800s. Obviously it was just a family wish and a story developed, just as the same family reckoned connection to Blakemores (Spar) through the husband of Edith Silvers, Joseph Henry Blakemore!;)
