    Our childhood toys

I seem to remember sticking something ? in the end of a bike pump & the air pressure would shoot it out. Anyone remember those foil papers from ciggie packets that we used to shape & then toss them up to the ceiling where they would stick ?

    Children's games - late 19th century

We used to play a game of pennies nearest the wall. Stand back about 10 feet & toss your coin towards the wall, nearest to the wall was the winner. A similar game was played with cigarette cards. We also had a make-shift boxing ring which was no fun for me when i was getting hammered by a girl (...

    Memory holes in personal history.

One of my earliest memories is walking across the frozen lake in Brookvale park. It was so cold with freezing fog. I can remember walking half way, but can`t remember getting to the other side. In my late teens i became homeless. Can`t remember why, but let me tell you sleeping rough is not much...

    Your Claim To Fame

Jackie Charlton was a hunting & fisherman. Your mention of the glorious 12th reminded me of how sad it is to kill an animal for sport.

    Your Claim To Fame

My feeble claim to fame was seeing Billy Fury making a film at Gatwick airport. Another feeble claim was being detained by East German police at Checkpoint Charlie, & was" rescued" by a very large Russian officer. Very embarrassing !

    My First Car

My first car ( apart from army ones ) was a Austin mini, reg 899 UP. As usual with British cars ( remember them ) the engine was ok but the bodywork soon deteriated into rust. I seem to remember the piston damper in the carburettor had to be topped up quite frequently. I now drive a Seat Ateca 2...

    Fishing

Pete, i used to fish with a couple of mates by the weir in Worcester. One lad caught a lovely salmon which he took home, which begs the question, is that stealing? I know if i caught a salmon (fat chance ) i wouldn`t throw it back.

    Birmingham Christmas of the past

The problem with giving the postal person a christmas box is we rarely have the same one two days running. We have at least three & one of them (a male ) won`t deliver if our ferocious westie is in the garden.

    Birmingham Christmas of the past

Christmas day deliveries wow. I think at one time there was more than one delivery possibly three. Remember when you would always tip the service people, postman, milkman, coalman etc. The milkman, coalman, have all but disappeared. !
