    Gone out of fashion

Buttered whilst still hot so the butter sinks in followed by a light covering of strawberry jam.

Many years ago i used to buy wood pigeons from my local butcher. They taste very nice but always remember to spit the lead pellets out. :(

Birmingham schools in 1940s and 50s

The school was indeed in Slade road near the Star cinema. The park was probably Brookvale park where i spent many hours fishing, boating & some sports. Loved that park.

    Erdington Market Closing Down.

I often went into Woolies Erdington for a bag of warm salted peanuts. There was so much pilfering going on, it`s no wonder they eventually went bust.

Slug pellets have been used by gardeners for many years & if it`s true that they are dangerous then it`s too late for us gardeners, we`re doomed, infamy infamy they`ve all got it in for me.! Sorry, i haven`t had my medication today.

Moving away but always a Brummie

I don`t think i`ve ever had a `brummy accent`. People here in Durham say i talk posh ! Yet my brother has the most awful brummy accent & when i speak to him on the phone i have to ask him to slow down & repeat what he just said. When he talks about politics he gets so excited he may as well...

I`ve not had much experience with lawns but i would have thought mixing some seed with sharp sand & scatter where needed. Personally i have artificial lawn, always looks good & doesn`t need mowing.

    Slade Primary School

I remember Mrs Jones, a terrible teacher. When she had to leave the room she would say, "now children i want you all to be absolutely quiet till i get back & there will be a sweet for everyone that stays quiet " Of course when she returned she would say "hands up everyone that's been quiet"...

Nice photo. Richard, all creatures have to eat, be it a lion killing a okapi, a hawk killing a mouse.or a human killing a lamb. Either eat, or starve & die. Personally if i had to kill for food i would probably die !

The bait box proved useless. I opened it to find a slug chomping away on the poison blocks. As for not feeding the birds i couldn`t do that, though i admit some birds ( Goldfinch ) scatter as many seed as they eat, & the pigeons will sit under the feeders catching the spillage. A garden without...

I`ve had a rat(s) in the garden for a few days now. I bought a bait trap & placed 4 blocks of poison inside which i checked after a few days & none of the poison blocks had been touched. I emptied the poison blocks onto a concrete slab & i was amazed to see a rat come through a gap in the fence...

I was going to say something witty like.... you`ll have to behave yourself now you`re one of us. Silliness aside, i hope you enjoy your "retirement " There is nothing more important than family. Enjoy your new leisure time.
