    Ridley St Washington St

The only pic of Washington Street that I have is all commercial buildings about 20 years ago, originally the Syren Works of ships' lamp manufacturer Alfred F. Genton & Son Ltd. The full story of the Compnay can be found on my website here:- https://mscrete.com/genton.htm Maurice

    Covid vaccination process

I'd be more worried about the haircut, Enel, I keep putting that off because I have always hated having my haircut, but it will be long enough for a pightail soon ! :) Maurice

    Asylum Road

Thanks for that, John, though as you say, probably not too accurate, and as we know, knock a few buildings down and you can alter road layouts quite significantly. And it is almost 170 years since the building was demolished. Maurice

    Grafton road B11

Optrists, I've failed to find any using the search engine and taking a virtual stroll using Google StreetView, it all now seems to be fairly modern commercial premises. I guess any photos will be as rare as hens' teeth and likely to be in private hands. It seems that a couple of other people...

    127 Bristol Road

It looks as if he was born in Vienne, about 8 miles south of Lyon. We stayed there in 2014 for a week and it is home to quite a nice little jazz festival. I even bought a storm jacket there and still use it to this day. :) Maurice

    127 Bristol Road

The only thing I can find on FMP is a hospital admission record for a J. de Serionne who was an interpreter for the Royal West Kent Regiment, but no mention of a Birmingham connection. Date of birth of 1892, so possibly the same man, and was transferred from No 9 Cav. Field Ambulance to number...

    127 Bristol Road

An address search for 127 Bristol Road on the 1911 Census shows that no such property exists. Odd numbers jump from 123 (a manufacturers' clerk & family) to 129 (a widow with no occupation) and even numbers jump from 126 to 128 as expected. Nor does the number appear in the index of houses on...

Great Charles Street Queensway car stunt

Some people drive like that all the time, BB :) I left Brum in 1961 and the first time I drove back was about 1990 on a business trip to Aston Uni. Of course, all the road system had totally changed but I knew where I wanted to get to and could see it, but couldn't get at it. In desperation I...

    Gedge

I can find no trace of Dorothy's death in England & Wales and I've now checked right up until last year when she would have beed 106 years old! We have no reason to suggest that she would have died in Scotland or Northern Ireland, so it is most likely she died in North America, possibly Canada...

MWS, We seem to differ re: my first paragraph though not the second! EDIT: Not differ as you are going down the cousin route I think Maurice

    Gedge

Ruud, Edward appears to have had an older brother, George August GEDGE born in 1908, but does not appear to have had any children from either of his two marriages to Enese R. SLAUGHTER in 1936 at Hove or to Grace LAU in 1980 at Brighton. There were no other children of Edward & Dora GEDGE née...

    Ann Street City Centre

Agreed, Viv, unindexed, you just get a gay bar of the same name in Sherlock Street, although, as Mike says, the name plate is clearly visible and Google need to get their act together. However, if my memory is correct, there used to be a Westminster Bank on that corner where Starbucks is, but...

    The Genealogist

John, it probably isn't from our point of view. For me it merely confirms the exact dates I went in and came out and the dates I changed ranks and stations. Since I was based totally in the UK, it was two sheets of largely blank A3 paper! I added details to my famioly history database and then...

    The Genealogist

John, There's nothing online from that period - I was in from 1955-7 and I had to send off to Glasgow for mine and they cost £30 whether they find them or not, but you do get an A3 colour photocopy for your money. Maurice

    Cemetery search

Jane, That was way before the internet & email and the time to have started ideally would have been before you disembarked. You would have then had a ready made self=-help group! :) Maurice

    The Genealogist

Jim, Here's how:- Downloading your tree from Ancestry® From any page on Ancestry, click the Trees tab and select a tree. From the tree, click the tree name menu in the top-left corner and select Tree Settings. On the right side of the Tree Settings page, click Export tree. The button will...

    The Genealogist

Jim, I believe so. I haven't got a tree on there, so can't test this out, but there should be an export function, and if you get a choice of format then choose GEDCOM. It's then a simple matter to import that file into BK. I can guide you through that once you have the GEDCOM file. Maurice
