Never mind the date, what day is it.

Diane, I think that is common with most of us that are retired, and it has been exacerbated by lockdown. Unless you have some sort of routine where you do certain things on different days, it is inevitable. As is the "never do today what you can put off until tomorrow" syndrome! If I don't like...

    Covid vaccination process

No problems here at all after our first Pfizer jabs yesterday, just a very slight bruising, nothing that a strong black coffee won't fix! :) Maurice

    Covid vaccination process

OK, here we go with vaccination Greek style using the Pfizer jab. We had appointments for 2:30pm and 2:45pm today at Neapoli Hospital, our cottage hospital about 7 minutes drive away. We were told to get there at least 15 minutes beforehand and arrived at 2:02pm. At the main hospital door we...

    Midlands Electricity Board MEB

Western Power was in August 2020 owned by the PPL Corporation based in Allenstown, Pennysylvania, but at that point they announced their intention to sell it again. Whether that have succeeded does not appear to be yet in the public domain, but, as usual, it's all about money. Maurice

    Covid vaccination process

Dave, I don't have any choice, but if I did I would go for the A-Z as it seems to be more effective, despite certain countries telling porkies for political reasons. Maurice

    Covid vaccination process

Richard, I've had almost as many blood tests as I've had hot dinners and I don't worry about needles. Same with injections, so I'm not anticipating any problems at all. The only phobia I have is people messing with my eyes! :) Maurice

    RIP JENNYANN

Fentham, Given that we can calculate Jenny Ann's birthday from the information that we originally received, then there are 11 possible surnames that could have been that of Jenny Ann, one of which was VENVILLE (mother's maiden name WELCH). I couldn't find an obituary in local BC papers, but I...

Holidays : Holidays at home and days out

You're right there, Richard, very little stays still even in rural Greece. We've got quite a few deserted or near-deserted villages, or rather hamlets, where the young have moved away and the old 'uns have died. I can think of two within 6 miles of here - one desolate and the sheep and 5 or 6...

Holidays : Holidays at home and days out

RichardinWales, You can't beat it! What has happened in quite a few places on Crete is the the Kafeneons have been taken over by a new younger generation that want to see some profit for their work. So the days when the old men would sit outside playing Tavli and buy a cheap Greek coffee about...

    OLD BIRMINGHAM PHOTOS FROM STEVEBHx

Yes, the old dance hall - now an Asian banqueting place - is half way on the right hand edge of the pic, but just missed the old Springfield Cinema, converted to a furniture store and empty again last year. (Post #373) Maurice

Traditional Songs we sang at school

David, Well at least most of our music lessons, for those that didn't have violin or cello lessons, was largely music appreciation. Our music master, Stanley Adams, was a fine pianist who frequently gave recitals on the Third Programme, as it was called in those days, so apart from singing the...
