    Holidays of the past

We used to go to a pub in Worcestershire called the Live and Let Live at a place called Sinton Green. (Run by a Birmingham couple) and they used to have hop pickers there. People used to say they were travellers. I remember they used to frequent the pub, and we would see them in the fields...

No matter where the hospital was, all I can say was, that it gave me a lovely nostalgic feeling just thinking about it again. Thanks for the memories Lynda

    birth look up Please

Hi Carol His birth was registered in March 1894 in Birmingham if it is the same one. Gertrude was registered in Birmingham in September 1895. Unless you can find them on the 1901 census, you will need to send for the birth certificate which from the GRO will cost £7.00. Lynda :)

    Dolls Hospital

Does anyone remember the Dolls Hospital? I think it was on the Lichfield Road on the corner of Victoria Road, but I may be wrong. Many of my dolls went there to have the head put back on , or an arm, poor things. Those were the days when items were mended, not just replaced. Its strange how...

    GEC WITTON WORKS

Re: GEC Works Witton The G.E.C. was at the bottom of our road. My Uncle worked there for many years, and we went every year for a party. It wasn't Christmas, so it may have been a sports day. All I remember was having a wonderful time as we did as kids. Lynda

    AnnB

Such true words Ann. I lost my son of 28 years in January 2006. I know every one grieves differently, but I haven't stopped speaking of him since the day he died. The tears don't come so often, and there is more laughter now, remembering the good times we had with him. Just a Mom

    What did you wear?

I always remember going to a wedding in the fifties and as it was a very wet day, Dad made me wear a pair of wellies and a gabadine mack. Oh I did cry. Lynda

    1953 -1964

Actually Paul, he now says he did go to the same school. but was probably a bit older than you. He asks, was Mr Williamson the PE master as well? If so, he says that when playing rugby, he did as he was instructed and tried to bring the man with the ball down. Because it was the P.E. teacher...

I would be very interested if anyone has any info on this family. I have a Jane Harris in my tree. She was born in Overbury Worcestershire, but the family came to Birmingham about 1852. I also have Clements in my family tree who were also from Overbury and married to Rhoda Harris. Could be a...

    Petrol Price's

It's a d....m disgrace. I was under the impression that the cost per barrel has come down. So why haven't we seen a decrease in the price at the pumps? It doesn't matter where you put your x, the likes of you and me are never altered whoever gets in. I wonder how many 'in opposition' will...

    Black over Bill's Mothers

I reckon its good to pass these old sayings on. My young daughter often uses the saying, and we don't care who Bill is. Another one is 'a cat lick and a promise' 'I'll go to the foot of our stairs' and Dads favourite 'Guys Squints'. It gives me such a warm feeling remembering the way my family...
