People's Dispensary for Sick Animals, Lichfield Road

Pdsa I can remember taking our budgie several times to the PDSA on Lichfield Road. I loved that silly bird! In those days I can never remember being rejected because I had no money. It was a case that the animal suffered if they didn't treat them in those days, as the last thing we could afford...

    Erdington, Croydon Road

A little bit of searching on google and I remember why the name was so familiar. I went to Erdington Hall School from 1957 to 1961 which was near by, and walked from my home every day. We did a lot of walking in those days didn't we? I can hardly walk to the top of the garden now!!! Lynda

    Erdington, Croydon Road

I'm sitting here trying to think where Croydon Road was? I recognise the style of house, and it cannot have been too far from Abbey Road (off the Slade Road) Lynda

    The Live and Let Live

When we were kids, we used to go to The Live and Let Live, but I think it must have been a different one. This one was at Sinton Green, not too far away from Worcester. At that time, about 50 years ago now, it was run by a 'brummie' and the friends he left behind used to arrange coach trips to...

Where did this saying come from?

Something that has just come to mind was the saying 'Thats better by a long chalk' Where did that come from? Or was it just a saying in our house? Sure one of you will know it. Lynda on a very cold and windy Wales day.

Bierton Road Hello there! My husband David attended that school around about that time. He was born in 1944. He was born in Flavells Lane in Yardley off the Hob Moor Road. Hope we get to see some pics but sorry we haven't kept any. Best wishes Lynda

harris and sheldons shop fitters stafford street

My husband David worked for Harris and Sheldon back in the late 60's as a painter and decorator. We met when he was working in East Birmingham Hospital, and I was a Student Nurse. He was probably in his late teens at that time. He loved his job there, but was eventually made redundant . Lynda

    The Ring O' Bells

What a lot of memories that old picture would hold for my family. My grandmother bless her, lived in Garrison Lane. She told me years ago, how she used to walk to the Ring a Bells and how it was all countryside. Ofcourse that would have been at the turn of the 1900's Lynda

    Shepherd's Pie

Shame I've already had dinner. It sounds delicious! I love garlic with lamb. Try stuffing several cloves inside the lamb whilst roasting. The smell is lovely. All depends on taste though Lynda

    Mushy Peas

Does anyone remember the brown peas that we used to have years ago? Don't know if you can still get them? Dad used to cook them exactly the same as mushy peas but with bits of bacon in it. I thought that was quite yummy. Lynda

    Yew Tree Road school

Hello again Patty. David was from Yardley. The Yew Tree isn't there anymore. Some one posted a picture on this forum of the very old Hob Moor Road which was interesting as part of my family lived this end of town at the turn of the century. Kind Regards
